Embarrassing we still can’t spend all our international bonus pool money.  The entire org is a fucking joke.

Cash considerations three times this year? Going out. We're so back boys. We're going to own every .1 WAR 30 year old reliever in MLB.

  • I've argued this for years. It's ridiculous. I'll be expecting David Keller to spend his full allotment in 2027 and beyond.

Capra, I assume, is taking Amaya's spot. Wonder who Castro is taking?

He's a 6'7" RHRP, primarily sinker/slider, tops out around 97. Hard changeup at 89-90.

Good results in the hitter friendly PCL. 20 Ks to 8 BB, 5/6 on saves this season.

Getz absolutely loves acquiring old relievers.  Yawn…

30 years old, great stuff, but can’t hit the broad side of a barn with it…

Sounds familiar.

Cash considerations.

Castro had a June 3rd opt out and Houston didn't plan on adding him.

Jerry is not pleased…

White Sox acquired RHP Miguel Castro from the Astros for cash considerations.

The 30-year-old right-hander had an opt-out clause coming up in his minor league deal, so the Astros decided to flip him someplace where he’ll get an opportunity. He’s expected to join the White Sox’ bullpen on Friday.

Jerry is not thrilled.

JR, "Getz you're killing me with these cash deals."

Besides being tall, it looks like Castro has serious control issues. It is hard to watch a bullpen guy come in and start walking people.

Get sure does like relievers who can't throw strikes.

Castro has had some pretty big fluctuations in his K rate over the course of his career. Not sure what has driven that. Some shifts in his velo too (95.5ish early, then up to 98ish average, dropping down to 94.5 last year. He's around 95.5 in AAA in 2025).

The slider is his best pitch despite the big velo and run on the sinker. Changeup heavy approach to lefties and it has generally performed okay to good. Sinker has been the trouble spot for him but is probably a pitch he needs to grab strikes. Last season he started mixing in four seamers and they got crushed; he hasn't thrown any in AAA this year.

The guy has been serviceable, aside from 13 innings last season.  And he's pitched well in AAA this year.  Relievers are an area where I don't mind seeing vets who could hopefully eat some innings and take some pressure off the starters.  We obviously want to see the younger guys of the future as starters and position players, and if this guy can eat some innings and help stabilize the bullpen, that's great.

Sounds like they actually sent international bonus pool $, which is way worse than JR's cash imo.

From the current pool I assume?

"The White Sox are rebuilding and don’t have a strong relief group. Collectively, their bullpen has a 4.42 ERA, putting them in the bottom third of major league teams. Given that they are 14-30 and at the bottom of the American League standings, they presumably plan to install Castro into the bullpen and see if he can pitch his way into being a midseason trade candidate. Assuming they plan to call him up before his opt-out, they will need to open a 40-man spot for him."

Not clear but I would assume so.

The ads on this site are insane

If you're talking about their content, that's based on your browsing history, which is why I get mostly MiLB teams (especially the Cannon Ballers' sick new hats).

If you're talking about the amount, yeah, ads suck but that's what keeps a Soxtalk free space to discuss our team and other things.

It’s the amount. I just had to reload the page because it was a full page ad that wouldn’t go away. I get the need for ad money, but come on.
