5/17 Sox @ Cubs 1:20PM

Recommended Posts

Watching the Rays and the announcers are talking about how strong the American League Central is except for the White Sox and who ever beats us the most will wind up winning the Central with the other 2 taking the WC, just so embarrassing. I really thought we were turning the corner but the last 3 games have been brutal. It’s time to cut bait with Robert and Vaughn, they’re suppose to be the strength of the lineup and are just plain garbage especially AV because at least Robert is still playing a great center field.

Vargas is only player that would start for the Cubs

Nice to see him doing something impressive a lot more.

Cubs have no decent guy at 3rd.  Getz probably thinking another opportunity to make Birmingham better.

Both Central divisions are a joke.  They should make a division for the Pirates, Sox, Reds and call it the cheap ass owners division.

Only some kind of miracle could change it.
Back in the Go Go years, the Sox were more popular and I think the Sox were more popular in the first 2 decades of the 20th century leading the Majors in attendance more than a few times while winning 2 World Series but of course the franchise took a beating after the Black Sox scandal.
When Reinsdorf took over in 1981 the metro area was just about equally divided and the Sox were the first Chicago team to draw 2 million in 1983 and were the darlings of the area. I have always thought that things really started to change when the Cubs came out of nowhere and won the 1984 division while the Sox floundered that year. The Tribune buying the Cubs and Harry Caray moving to the Northside had huge implications along with WGN becoming a Superstation. Meanwhile with one blunder after another by Reinsdorf has seen the fan base shrink and shrink and I have no idea what the last 3 years are doing to it.

It's still a Bears town.  The NFL rules many cities not named NY or LA.

More often local medias spend more time on the NFL team.

Name it the Relegation Division.

The coaches fixed Vargas just like the coaches fixed Joe Crede years ago. I wonder why they can't fix Robert Jr. He looks completely lost at the plate.

Nothing makes sense. How do you develop not getting chances, the one thing not being a good team should give players?

Venable is starting to look like the same clueless boner that Grifol was, but with a better personality when facing the media.

He failed in his first taste of the majors to start the season but Matt Shaw is OPS’ing over 1.000 in the minors.

But, when it comes to baseball, it's a Cubs town. I was actually at the game today and was pleasantly surprised to see more Sox fans than I thought I would though.

If the Sox would win on a regular basis, it would be more even.

Isn't it amazing how the Sox usually score early in games? Aside from that, today's game was sort of a bummer. Cubs pretty much boatraced the Sox. Would be nice to get game three and avoid a 3 game losing streak out of nowhere.

Very good point. Why can't Robert bust loose and hit .320, not .190?

Sox lineup is AAA quality at best.  Hard to compete unless our pitching is superb.

I agree the Cubs have the better team. But our lineup I think is better than our pitching. With Meidroth, Elko and Quero to go with Vaughn and Robert that's not bad if Beni was healthy. Our lineup is not that bad. I like our pitching coach. He's gotten pretty good results out of a bunch of stiffs.

I think we've just run into a much better team than the Cubs. If we win Sunday that's pretty good to take 1 of 3 in their ballpark IMO.

Other than Vargas and Meidroth outplaying expectations overall…they’re still 2-3 middle of the order hitters short.

And still not convinced Sosa and Baldwin are long-term pieces.

I expected a little more from our best starters. They lacked confidence in their pitches and threw too many gopher balls. Venable should stop  spitting and focus on motivating this team to play their best against the Cubs. Only a few players looked like they did.

Burke has arguably been their fourth best starter...fifth, if you count Martin Perez.

LOL, they are utility players on one of if not the worst team in baseball. There are no long term position players on this team beyond Vargas and possibly Meidroth. Sosa and Baldwin can occasionally hit with power which is why they are in some games.
