What a great guy. Good to everyone.

And born and raised a White Sox fan.

This could be telling

Stone retiring?  I figured he would continue to milk his easy gig of trolling his partner and collecting a paycheck for a few more years?  Stone Pony likes dogs more than humans.

Stone seems more robotic then ever this year he should just step away. He's been doing this what like over 30 years now between cubs and sox? Hang it up get some new blood in the booth.

Yep. Many a discussions about the 70/80s Sox.

Dan Plesac.... Dude was a good pitcher

Dan is good on mlb network.

Looking forward to hearing him on broadcast

He seemed happy with Jason — granted, that was pre-catastrophic collapse.

Now I think he's just gassed.

Good news Plesac's a very likable guy and a bit goofy so perfect 🙂

That's actually awesome. I thought Beckham was getting better and that he would be the inevitable replacement and that it wouldn't be so bad...but this one's a little out of left field (out of the bullpen?) but not unwelcome -- I had no idea he was from Gary.

IMO he sounds better than he did last year, less outward negativity, but he's been a ghost for years. still occasionally funny.

Love this move

Plesac, the other big man from Gary,  as a mlb pitcher, was a Sox killer. I did not look up the stats to verify that, but I would not be surprised if they bear my memories of him out. Too bad he didn't play for the Sox.

Never knew he grew up a Sox fan. One of the few I actually like on MLBN.

He wanted to, it just never happened.

Don't know how he did in his career against the Sox but I remember an August game in 1990, the Game of the Week on CBS at Comiskey Park where he gave up the game winning hit to Ozzie.

I don't know exactly how he'll be as a color guy, but I'm a big fan of Plesac's on MLB Network's studio shows.

FWIW, contrary to some of the other comments, I've been thinking that Schriffen and Stone have had a pretty good rapport as of late. I don't necessarily mean that about the objective quality of their broadcast, but just in the "these guys like each other and are having a good time" way. It was especially apparent after Steve had that time off and came back. Steve's energy level has been dropping a bit since then so maybe this break is well-timed. He's getting old and the team isn't all that exciting, so he might need to be taking time off to be able to bring it. All the more reason to be trying out some legitimate options for his successor. Plesac is a Sox fan, has lots of MLB and TV experience, and is a high energy guy who probably can take the grind in stride if he ended up taking the role.

Frankly, as good as Stone's reputation is, I've never enjoyed him all that much so I do have some bias. Jason brought out a good side of him and John doesn't do a bad job either. With Hawk was a toxic mix because they are both so very arrogant. Jason is more deferential and clearly has a similar sense of humor so it worked reasonably well. John is figuring Steve out but John is (IMO) overly deferential so there's nobody willing to contradict Steve on the broadcasts even when he is not infrequently wrong about something. While I wouldn't necessarily make the choice of Steve's successor based on what suits Schriffen best (which would imply Schriffen is some kind of franchise player to build around), a fellow high-energy guy like Plesac might work pretty well.

Plesac is a great choice for color commentary. He will make you forget the Benetti / Stone broadcast team so fast it isn't funny.

Schriffen / Stone.  People actually liked Benetti.

I thought Plesac was pretty good today.
