Looking at Sleepy Harold’s link to the layout, It’s interesting to see how narrow the stadium’s east side is. Based off this render with the boats near the riverwalk, it seems the designers believe that Ishbia’s park will allow for splash hits(!).

I also really love sub level fields. I don’t know what difficulties , if any, come with it for field maintenance or whatever, but it is the only interesting part of Kauffman.

Was just going to say that this looks like it fixes New Comiskeys biggest mistake of being all above ground level.

Personal antidote; I grew up in Wheaton and went to Wheaton Warrenville South and everyone of our large extended friend group except one guy were Sox fans.

Any mention of the proposed seating capacity?

It should probably stay somewhere around where it is now. They arent going to draw 45k a night. Better to have it smaller and full then large and partially empty.

Pretty cool, definitely need to keep the pinwheels though. That would be sacrilege to drop those from the scoreboard.

I lived in the Wheaton area from 1972 until our move to Florida in 1993 and I thought there was a slight majority of Sox fans in the Wheaton-Glen Ellyn area. That’s 33 years ago so I have no idea what things are like now.

Are you accounting for all the families that have moved to Naperville/Plainfield/Shorewood area due to, um, demographic changes in the south suburbs?

Also, Naperville/Plainfield/Oswego has seen an enormous increase in families that don’t particularly care about baseball

The existing Halsted St BNSF stop would be about a 15-20 minute walk from the stadium, which isn't awful. A dedicated stop would be perfect though.

"It’s unclear if the project would call for public financial support for infrastructure, though tentative plans include a new Metra station, according to an Ishbia spokeswoman."

I'll also note that, while the BNSF is the main Metra line running through those tracks, the Metra SWS (to Orland Park/New Lenox/Frankfort) and Heritage Corridor (to Joliet) lines also use those tracks heading into Union Station's south platforms.

You can see the raise pedestrian plaza on the rendering that facing north too. It looks like the plaza is above the Metra tracks and level with those 4 ped bridges that cross over to the west end of the development. This would allow fans to enter the park right at the 100 level.

Also note the rendering has a pedestrian bridge across the River to the 78 just south of the Sox stadium.

I haven't lived in the Chicagoland area in 13 years, so things definitely could have changed. But my experience with the people I went to high school with was that it was probably a 70/30 split.

It always felt like there was a nice pocket of Sox fans there. If anything it always felt 50/50 at best if not more towards 70/30 Sox. That's mostly just personal experience though.

Who gets a new stadium done first Bears or White Sox? Ishbia seems to be moving fast considering he is not the owner yet.
