4-9 years is a long time Im afraid that lots will happen in the meantime to make Ishiba think twice about pulling the trigger with the inept way this org is run

Or that Jerry made a deal with the devil and never exits this earthly existence.  Jerry may have watched all of the Final Destination movies and figured out how to cheat Death’s designs.  🤣

You could also look at it like the more inept the org is prior to him taking over the easier it will be for him to be the hero.

Why would it matter if it’s ran ineptly now? He can change whatever he wants. He is obviously fine with it.

Yeah, it's mentioned in the Sun-Times article linked above.  So, are not incorrect that it's been mentioned.

I suppose they could build an entertainment district anywhere - The 78, around the existing park, or even at Michael Reese, but the first 2 sites at least are very well connected by L lines.   The 78 is close to downtown, the current park is of course next to a nice residential area and by 2 L stops.

Maybe someone can convince me otherwise, but I'm not sure how an entertainment district would thrive at the Michael Reese site.   How easy is it to get to that site by mass transit if you aren't taking the Metra Electric or South Shore line?  How is that site better than 35th and Shields?

Basically, you have the King bus, and thats it. The 31 and the 4 are blocks away, and not exactly easily accessible on foot. I just don't see how a ballpark on the Reese site as any sort of improvement on the supposed issues at 35th & Shields. It is less accessible via transit, car, or on foot. Maybe 8-10 football games is viable, but not 81 dates.

More columns, one being the "be careful what you wish for" variety. My response to the author was basically anything has got to be better than this regardless of what baggage the Ishbia's carry:

I'm willing to wager he's not around for the full nine years.

You’re underestimating him making Sox fans miserable for as long as possible. It’s 50/50 IMO

Not underestimating that at all, history shows that is his M.O. Just saying I don't think he'll be alive for the full nine years.

No coincidence that 2033 is the 100th anniversary of the All Star Game.

And to finish your thought for Sox fans unaware of  aspects of Sox history, the Sox hosted the very 1st All Star Game and I believe are hosting the 100th Anniversary game. Where that will be in Chicago is anyone's guess. It's plenty of time to build that new stadium.

He's fine with it at the current time.  He hasn't committed himself fully.

Well think of what he was trying to do in basketball. Attempting to throw as much money around as possible to get players but there's constraints in basketball that just don't let you do that. Unless MLB is implementing a salary cap anytime soon we could see them in a whole new section of the free agent market in short order.

Knowing how MLB operates to favor the East Coast teams it wouldn't surprise me a bit that a salary cap is finally implemented just when Ishbia takes over.

Yep. I think we'll see an all time low fir FA money this off season. For most teams.

Unless you're the Dodgers or Steve Cohen who would love to buy while prices are suppressed even if they are paying out salary to players in a strike.

Yep a new stadium is way more important than trying to buy our way to 75 wins

However you would like a new stadium to be finished while the team is trending towards a playoff appearance, even if I'm having trouble visualizing both of those things now.

It's a little too much to wrap my head around at this moment of JRs reign.

The next market inefficiency.

Having the financial wherewithal (and no debt or at least positive incoming cash flow guaranteed through other avenues) to hold out for 2-3 months and "corner the market" on free agents with below par value deals compared to any other "regular" or "normal" year of FA.

It will be the Dodgers, Mets, Cubs (maybe?), Yankees, Red Sox (maybe?), Giants (from missing all their previous big targets like Aaron Judge and new determination w/ Buster Posey), Angels, Braves, Phillies, Rangers and Blue Jays (maybe?) that are the most aggressive teams here.

This is great news. 4 years isn't long and they'll have access to funds it sounds like. I'm expecting this ball club to atleast be alot better by 2027.

Gotta believe access to funds also means control, effectively.

Those quotes about Chicago are great

This is fantastic - timing is great too. I want to see stadium deal announce at 79 or alternate site in Chicago by end of year with 29 opening date. Means we should see them spend in 28 offseason and maybe even in 27 offseason heading into 28 - so they are dialed in and excited for new stadium etc. Timing lines up well with rebuild cause him coming in now and spending massive money while exciting probably would be too soon to blow the wad - in another year / 2 - hopefully system continues to depend and major league roster has added some attractive pieces from system including some guys making it up this year.

Big time in the red

Didn't we all used to think that JR being the expert tax guy could always manipulate his books to pretty much always claim the Sox were losing money ? Isn't that part of his schtick as to why they could never land the big fish  and echoed by the KW quote about not being able to give a guy a dollar if you only have 50 cents.

I supposed things got worse post Covid but it's not like Covid hurt the Sox more than anyone else. The Sox contended for a few years after Covid but it collapsed quickly after locking up players who then took their health and newly signed wealth for granted along with JRs unwillingness to pay for a superstar and ignore development as always. Now we're at poverty level but JR has the money to invest in the 1901 project ?

He's just doing everything he can to make his kids as rich as possible. He's stringing the Ishbia's along and giving fans a tiny bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Usually with JR that light is an oncoming train .
I'll wait and see how this plays out before I get too excited. I'd be shocked if the Ishbia's put up a billion dollars for a stadium on the 78 unless they have full control 1st.

The two teams who have lost the most in RSN/broadcast revenues (by far) have been the Sox and Padres, compared to where things stood just two short years ago.

Twins and Guardians are right up there, along with all the NL Central teams not named Cubs/Cardinals.

The Coasts have won, basically...with very few exceptions like the two just mentioned.

So Ishbia's pull out of the Twins because they have too much debt but the Sox don't apparently. Doesn't sound to me like the Sox are in the red as much as some claim, including you who just said the Sox and Padres have lost the most ( by far) in RSN/ broadcast revenue.
