Two often repeated statements/ arguments on this board that now seem silly:

Who is chest pumping. I believe the sentiment is, they are showing improvement.

This goes back to all of the discussions. As soon as someone utters anything not negative, people start saying why do people think this team is good or why is anyone proud of this record.

Everyone realizes this team is bad. However, very few teams go from bad to playoffs in one season. It can happen but not often.

Stating that they are showing progress does not mean someone thinks they are going to the playoffs or even good.

As I've stated many times, it is not dichotomous. They don't have to be world series champions or worst team of all time only. They can show improvement on the continuum.

One happened 20 years ago.

The other happened last year.

Can’t imagine why some aren’t willing to “eat crow” yet

Eat crow about what? That the team this year has shown progress from last year?

This concept of progress goes right over the head of many people.

Never said anyone was dumb. You are making stuff up. I just said people cant seem to understand it for some reason.

Usually its bias which has nothing to do with intelligence.

WE ARE NO LONGER THE WORST TEAM ALL TIME, ONLY ONE OF THE WORST EVER!!!

HOW ARE YOU NOT CRACKING OPEN CHAMPAGNE???

I AM THE GREATEST FAN OF ALL TIME!

The gaslighting is too much.

Ptac, who was here saying they were going to break their how record? Obviously they weren't going to be as bad as last year, but they're still absolutely awful. Certainly not worthy of gloating or I told you soing anyone.

Who has done any of things you mentioned? Certainly not me.

I agree they are bad. I've made good money betting against them everyday. There isn't any chest thumping as you were asking about. There is just progress from last year.

As long as they continue to show progress they'll get there.

Again the dichotomy of opinion. Not a single person has stating that it's time for champagne and time to celebrate or even that its a great team.

Just being happy that they are showing prpgress.

That you don't see the irony in your own statement?  Cool.

They're on pace for the 22nd most losses in modern mlb history.

Not irony research. We spent a great deal of time teaching health care professional about biases, where they come from and how to minimize them. Intelligence is not one of the primary influences on biases.

But anyone who doesn't agree doesn't understand and is showing bias.  Sure Bob.

Tray is surely going to put you on the "bad fan" list for betting against the White Sox.

Everyone shows bias. The problem is you project someone saying. They are showing progress to Everyone pop the champagne, this team is going somewhere.

I have a bias as well and mine is to give people chances to prove themselves and be more optimistic. I try lie heck not to project what I think someone means onto them.

Agreeing and understanding are 2 different things. You have to agree with something but you can understand thebprocess.

And still you can come up with something better than that.

Yet you are projecting that anyone who doesn't see what you do, doesn't understand and is showing bias....  based on opinions. You can't have it both ways.

It's not having it both ways. I'm not projecting my bias on to what other ARE thinking like stated people are popping champagne because they say there is progress.

I'm saying I cant understand why people don't understand the concept of progress from one year to the next. I'm not saying what they are thinking. I'm cant understand what they are thinking.

It's process vs. knowing.

Because its a fact that this team is better than last year. Very small amount, they are still bad but they are better.

A better discussion would be, "they are showing progress but I'm not happy with the speed of the progress."

This is absurdly self-serving and an absolute waste of timewhen  you pretend that you arent doing exactly what you are accusing of when it is all there.

The Sith always pop up if anything not negative is stated. Then will insist that everyone is saying the Sox are winning the world series and have a team of all-stars.

This team is 29th in the MLB. Only the Rockies being on pace to shatter the futility record of the Sox last year saves them from being the worst team in the MLB. Again.

They have the 26th ranked offense.

This team is still on pace to break 100 losses?

If these are things to get excited or happy about, you need more things in your life to get excited and happy about. This continues to be an embarrassment of a sports organization.

Wake me up when they're contending for the division more than once a decade.

So they are slightly better than the team that set the all time record for losses. Rejoice Sox fans, and those that said they are the same or worse are such fools. I think most on here figured they would win more than 41 games. It's not really a high bar. Calling people out because of a 6 game hot streak, which was nice to see, is absurd. This team sucks.

The W-L record isn’t something to get excited about.  But if we’re being fair to the OP, there were multiple posters here saying the team would be worse than last year despite plenty of data points that objectively proved how hard that would be.  Along those lines, many of those same posters called the addition of Tauchman & Slater dumb since they were “garbage” vets who were blocking big time prospects like Dominic Fletcher, Oscar Colas, Zack DeLoach, and board favorite Alexander Canario (owner of a 64 wRC+ with the Pirates).

Now, should vilehoopster be this aggressive regarding these two points?  Hell no, these are not hills worth dying on and demanding apologies over given how bad the team / org remains at the moment.  However, it is nice to occasionally hold the overly negative posters accountable because they often bring down the quality of the board by relentlessly whining about everything and refusing to have objective conversations.

I think I’d still rather have Canario playing RF over Tauchman and Slater.  The only value Tauchman and Slater have in a non-competitive season for this org is what they are traded for at the deadline.  Chances are more likely than not that whatever return Getz gets for them won’t be worth much of anything.  Old veteran platoon bats / backups just don’t return much, and that’s what both Tauchman and Slater would likely be for contending teams.  Is anyone still excited about Jarold Rosado?  We had one big trade chip in Robert, but unfortunately he crapped the bed.

I mean, who gives a s%*#? They are still objectively awful. They are still an embarrassment. They are still years away from even contending for this division. It was always going to be nearly impossible for this team to be historically bad AGAIN. So congratulations on being right? Lol.
