You're probably right, but I actually think it would be very cool if his first MLB appearance was a save. Not sure that's ever happened before.

It's happened a few times but super rare. Corbin Burnes did it with Milwaukee in 2018

  • Neat. Sure seems the org thinks he's a bullpen arm. Should be electric in that role. Lord knows the bullpen needs help. I'll still hope he transitions into a starter a la Crochet though. 🥲

  • I was totally against this but Bannister did a great job elaborating on their plan. It makes sense.

Sox have had the fewest opportunities for saves in baseball. I think it'll be pretty cool just to see him contribute like it is with all the top guys they bring up.

I dunno, I feel like Smith, Cannon, Burke, and Martin provide the foundation for a solid rotation. Hopefully Schultz, Thorpe, and Smith are ready next year and hopefully Ishbia approves a couple solid free agent signings to fill out the rotation. Very possible to have an average to above average rotation starting next season even without Taylor in it.

Don't forget Adams, I think he has a chance as well.

You need front line guys though.  That was supposed to be Hagen, Dutch, and Taylor.  If not Taylor, you are now down to needing the other 2 to be your 1-2.

Second round draft pick out of LSU is ready. Thanks to our loyal fans for attending a ton of home games so far this year. It appears the Sox front office has caught the fever. Fans applauding the team and shaking the Cell has to have heartened the guys who normally only get criticized by us fans (and rightly so). Your excitement in the stands has helped the Sox attain a good home record (oh so bad on the road tho). We're calling up young studs left and right in part because of all the positive vibes around 35th and Shields. True I am a hater of the tank/rebuild, but as a jaded fan I deserve the right to return to the bandwagon when I feel it's time. The Sox are rising baby. Keep bringing up young guys! And start winning some road games baby!

Here's what i want to see:

Dont hold his use for saves. Dont be Tony L.

Use him in big moments and let him gain experience on all situations, because closer is not a position, and the depth of the various situations are what matter in the end

And, maybe moreso next year-- use him like Oakland used Hendriks. Oakland ended up with a better record than the otherwise wouldve and that's because they used Hendriks multiple innings and put games away after 7. When the Sox got Hendriks it was like we kept him in a glass case for saves that never came. And what percent of our payroll was tied up in that

Cannon, Burke and Martin aren't the foundation of anything. No rotation is above average with those 3 in it.

Is Dylan Cease frontline? Heard he’s available this winter.

The Sox rotation is at least league average now. When Cannon returns it will be slightly above average. But I want Taylor to start as much as anyone.

They’re fine as 4/5 types with upside as 3s. Smith is already a mid rotation starter with ace upside. That’s a lot better than I was expecting coming to this season if I’m being honest.

It's funny because you are making my point for me about how hard it is to find and keep front line pitching,  but totally by accident.

Sox starters are #21 in mlb this season in fWAR. Not quite league average yet but getting closer and if Smith/Schultz are as good as advertised the rotation should be at least league average next year.

You don’t need elite starting pitching to be a contender in the AL. I don’t consider anyone in the Twins rotation elite.

If your offense and defense aren't elite you need a lot more pitching.

Twins and Guardians aren’t elite in anything and both are AL playoff contenders. AL has been trending down for years.

The AL Central is bad, and the Sox really help them look much better.  The rest of the AL is a lot better.  The Sox are currently WAY behind even those teams.

Not a fan of moving Taylor out of the rotation, BUT if you do it, you gotta bring him right up. AA hitters had nothing to teach him. It looked like a guy chucking wiffle balls past preschoolers. So, good, I guess.

The ALCentral is a mass of .500ish teams who all got 10 free wins against the White Sox.  If your goal is to be the Twins/Guards/Tigers/Royals, the Sox still have 30-40 games to go.  The East and West have legitimate 90 to 100 win teams.

AL Central is 38-29 against the AL East and 29-30 against the AL West. Detroit is the best team in the league.

The AL Central is bad? Best division in baseball so far.

Yet, how behind all of them are we?  If we are going to get there we need a critical mass of talent getting here in a narrow window to make up 40-50 entire games to be a real playoff threat.  Every time a Grant Taylor falls off, that is one less opportunity for that to happen.

Really disappointing if he's pigeonholed as a reliever.
