Devers

A 5+ year rebuild for Getz?  Wouldn’t be surprising at all.  Hopefully, Ishbia finds a qualified GM when he takes over.

More so in scouting and development.  Those are the real free agents'. Imagine trying to pull those people away from the consistent winning organizations.

Lol, the Sox aren't adding payroll. No way, no how, not for YEARS.

  • Not counting this year, Devers has $254M left on his contract. JR would never, never approve such a deal. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend?

  • Fantasy - not sure how you would even think this would be possible

Most of the Boston fans and media  are screaming their heads off about the Devers trade. Their saying that they received a bag of balls for Devers. I would like to think the White Sox could have sent a bag of balls to Boston for Devers.

Ishbia may still spend on better players, but he won't be allowed to until at least 2029.

Until 2029, this is Jerry's ship.

That is also not a given.

Man, I was mocked relentlessly for this last year...

Those are the same people who start playoff contender threads and demand apologies when these guys win 2 in a row.

I would like to think Sydney Sweeney would be down for a hook up.  I do realize that the odds of either of these things happening IRL is remarkably similar.

Do you have $254 million dollars?  Then you might be cooking.  But Jerry isn’t flipping the bill either.

As long as we're going down stupid rabbit holes, Devers would only cost the Sox 18,142,857 Sydney Sweeney soap bars

I would like to think I have $254 million, does that count?

The 1980 White Sox were almost 30 games better than the 2024 White Sox.

And still finished in fifth place.

When JR bought the White Sox he bought a bad team. First thing he did was sign 2 good free agents Fisk and Luzinski. It was a tremendous PR move. If it wasn't for the 1981 players strike the team was going to draw over 2 million for the first time. They were having walkup crowds of over 20,000 fans at some games.

You know the sports business is different now than it was 50 years ago, don't you?

The teams bad at scouting and development follow this formula.

You can even convince those fans that it works.

I never understood the draft pick envy either.  Baseball has a far more larger margin of error than the NFL or NBA.

Winning and losing seems to be a habit.  The  Dodgers seem to have more than their share of injuries yet they win.  There are no surrender trades.

It also doesn't hurt to have a top production farm system, a top flight international systems AND a top payroll.

Even if Jerry/Ishiba would approve it, it's still not a smart deal. While the package the Giants sent over to Boston certainly wasn't impressive, it would still have cost the Sox assets, but much more importantly, Devers will be 29 when the season is over. With or without Devers, the White Sox aren't close to competing in the next 2-3 seasons. Paying a 33,34,35,36 year old Devers 23 million + each season is not something I'd want my favorite team signing up for.

I could definitely comprehend it. I've been under the impression that Ishbia is going to put some money into the franchise. I just hope we find out if that is true. Whether the money goes towards players or a new stadium, I would feel alot better  if something is done by him.

I swear to god WBWSF believes that Ishbia has Scrooge McDucks money vault and just opened it up for Getz.  Like what in the entire world is happening here how did the expectations get there wtf

Exactly. I was watching a Podcast with Our Chuck and Fegan. It seems Fegan doesn't think the Sox will contend until 2030.

Even if you gave Getz the benefit of the doubt, contending before then would require Cleveland, Detroit, and Minnesota to all forget what they generally do pretty well.  All these three are not going to collapse.  They have good organizations, something you would think Chicago would have after 45 years of uninterrupted ownership.

You're not reading the responses here, are you?

Everyone is generally correct.  No 50 win team is paying $300 million to anyone (Especially a team that has never given out a $100 million contract).

This team is not good and if you put stock in their prospects why give them up for a guy who would get you from 50 to 53 wins?

If we had kept Crochet, gave him the extension Boston did, and then traded for Devers we'd still be like a 55 win team. There are times to spend money but right now JR has perfect cover for not spending any. Now I personally don't think he wanted it to be this bad, but I don't think he really cares that it did, either.

It's different clowns this year, which yea, wtf man. Just give it a rest. Even horrific baseball teams win a series once and awhile, sometimes even two in a row.

And have committed $600 million to get there.

Once again the OFFICIAL release said that Ishbia would be investing in the team next year financially.

How much clearer can that be to you?

Is it going to acquire two "superstars"? Not on your life. But his money will be used to do other things.

You are looking at probably a 95+ loss season in 2026 and a labor impasse wiping out at least a portion, possible a very good portion of the 2027 season.

We'll see how things look in 2028.

If only WBWSF were the GM with Greg as assistant GM....our troubles as a franchise would magically be over. Just sign good ballplayers.....
