Even if Jerry/Ishiba would approve it, it's still not a smart deal. While the package the Giants sent over to Boston certainly wasn't impressive, it would still have cost the Sox assets, but much more importantly, Devers will be 29 when the season is over. With or without Devers, the White Sox aren't close to competing in the next 2-3 seasons. Paying a 33,34,35,36 year old Devers 23 million + each season is not something I'd want my favorite team signing up for.

No 50 win team is paying $300 million to anyone (Especially a team that has never given out a $100 million contract). This team is not good and if you put stock in their prospects why give them up for a guy who would get you from 50 to 53 wins?

There are times to spend money but right now JR has perfect cover for not spending any. Now I personally don't think he wanted it to be this bad, but I don't think he really cares that it did, either.

Once again the OFFICIAL release said that Ishbia would be investing in the team next year financially. How much clearer can that be to you? Is it going to acquire two "superstars"? Not on your life. But his money will be used to do other things. You are looking at probably a 95+ loss season in 2026 and a labor impasse wiping out at least a portion, possible a very good portion of the 2027 season. We'll see how things look in 2028.
