The point I'm trying to make is they clearly had it in for Benetti but are given Schriffen the benefit of the doubt. Missing games is missing games, period. Personally as a broadcaster myself I think the main play by play guy should work all 162 games (or how ever many is involved in a particular sport) save for a medical or family emergency. Doing games is a grind, I know, I generally do around 50-55 a year but that's what the job entails and it's not like these guys are busing to a city, they are flying and getting as many breaks and perks as possible to make it as easy as possible. One final point about Benetti remember this is what I was told by someone involved in the negotiations for my story in November 2022: “Jason Benetti’s deal with the Sox is up, the Sox hold the option for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He went to Fox to negotiate that deal with them after he was told to do it and then come back to the Sox and they’d work something out. Jason wanted to get the deal done with the Sox first and then go to Fox or ESPN or whoever. Turns out when he came back to the Sox and said that he needs 40 days off so he can do the Fox work he was told, ‘no, that’s not happening.’ So I don’t know what’s going to happen to him or Steve Stone.” It seems Benetti wanted to work things out amicably and someone in the Sox organization decided to screw him over. And this source has been in the organization for decades, I trust what they tell me. Just my two cents. I was told Schriffen's deal is for three years but I'm also hearing that some think next year is at his option. If that's true it will be interesting to see if he decides to stick around. DoUEvenShift
https://awfulannouncing.com/orig/2025-mlb-local-broadcaster-rankings.html Quote 27. Chicago White Sox (John Schriffen, Steve Stone; also Connor McKnight on play-by-play and analysis, and Gordon Beckham and Dan Plesac on analysis): 1.82 Most common grade: C (36.1% of votes) Percentage of A/B/C grades: 61.9% The White Sox have had one of the most-discussed announcer teams in recent years, especially around play-by-play voice Jason Benetti’s move to the Detroit Tigers ahead of last season and Schriffen coming in as his replacement. Benetti and Stone (with Beckham as a frequent analyst as well) earned a 3.03 in 2023, sixth in our rankings, but Schriffen and Stone dropped to dead last with a 1.15 last year. The 1.82 this year is a significant rise over that, and, notably, a team this low in the rankings earned 94 As (of 1,066 votes). That was ahead of several teams, well above them. But the 253 Ds and 153 Fs they received kept this booth near the bottom. Several commenters on this team cited year-over-year improvement from Schriffen, including “has settled down a bit,” “is getting better,” and “has brought fresh young energy to the broadcast this year.” And multiple respondents really liked him. But there remain many Schriffen critics, including some with lines such as “makes you wish for hearing loss” and “beyond awful.” On the analysis side, Stone largely received plaudits. Those included “Steve Stone alone keeps them from [an] F” (on a D grade), “The A is for Steve Stone,” and “Steve Stone saves this booth.” But he had some critics as well, including “Stone drones on and on with no one to reign him in.” And all of McKnight, Beckham, and Plesac received some praise for their work.

caulfield12
"Many noted they’re still disappointed about Orsillo being gone, and several readers stated a preference for backup announcer (Mike) Monaco, with one calling him “a million times better than O’Brien could ever be.” Ofc Monaco was one of the names heard most frequently before they gave the job to Schiffren instead...probably because they already knew John could play the cheerleader/promoter/apologist role the best. Tigers up to 8th with usual +/- on Benetti, Cubs in the top group and Padres #1, which is very well deserved imo, letting Don Orsillo leave BOS a huge mustake. for the Red Sox. Chris Singleton with the Brewers fwiw...was pretty controversial when he first started out but has improved over time.
