Sox @ Rays rubber game - 7/23 - 6:35 CDT - Cannon V. Bradley

Massive difference between these last 2 “young cores” so far is the mentality. This group gives off way more competitive, winner, having fun playing ball vibes than the Moncada, Eloy, Yaz, Robert, Vaughn group did. Culture feels far different than the last group. No clue how it winds up down the road but I think it’s an obvious difference and think it matters.

TURN THE GAME BACK ON MORONS, IT WAS ONLY THE BOTTOM OF THE 1ST

  • I miss eating real hotdogs.  With diabetes the issue is the buns plus the hotdog and bun are killer in sodium.  No way would I ever one wrapped in lettuce or something like that.

Two bad plays (Robert Jr. and Baldwin)  but some memorable defensive plays...Teel sliding throw and the tag at home, Meidroth unbelievably pouncing on overthrow to get the runner at first, and Rojas catching a smoked ground ball and throwing to second.

Wasn't this guy pitching really well before today? Pretty harsh to option him when he's got the 2nd most pitching WAR on the team.

It's probably just so that they can grab a fresh arm for a few days after working their pen so much in the series. Funny timing though.

5th time this year the Sox trailed going into the 7th inning or later and won the game.

Altavilla got som generous calls .

Hella good win and 2 series on the road.

Best offensive stretch of the season easily.

Every win is a good prospect game !

Listened to the last few innings on the radio and that was fun. Colson just missed a grand slam.

But boy, Altavilla sure sounded like a guy without the makeup to close games. Len and DJ talked how he is usually calm out on the mound and that today he just didn't look comfortable out there. Even with great stuff, some guys have trouble getting outs 25-27.

Altavilla is fine for what he is imo, not a great reliever but not an awful one. Hopefully on a good Sox team he's like the 4th guy out of the pen type.

Difference tonight was Colson and some good patient ABs.

You can dream on Colson hitting 240/330/460 for the next 5 years with solid defense...

edit: colson one of 37 players this year to record 3 or more EVs > 107mph in a game. Kid has special traits, we'll see how it pans out for him.

It sounds like Colson is looking very confident and comfortable up there. It's exciting that he's having some immediate success on the Major league level. That is great to see.

I love the youngsters.

The Rays have big troubles ahead, because the Florida rainy season is from June to October they had way more  home games than usual in April and May.

August and September will see them on the road most of the time, they have a 2 week 12 game west coast road trip coming up soon which is unheard of in this day and age.

Back in the 50s, 2 week road trip were the norm.  I remember in 1958 in middle of the summer the Sox had a 3 week road trip for the installation of the new press box at old Comiskey visiting the cities of 6 out of their 7 opponents in the American League.

From AI……The Chicago White Sox had a road trip in 1958 during which renovations took place at Comiskey Park, including work on the press box.
The renovations involved the installation of a new press box with innovative features like windows that could be hoisted into the ceiling for an open-air experience.
This remodel of the Comiskey Park press box in 1958 was considered quite innovative for the time.

Meidroth is one smart player, he can beat you with the bat and glove but he also has something else that other players don’t, it’s called intangibles.

20 straight on the road from May 30 - June 15. Sox went 8-11-1.

I did some homework on Baseball Reference and AI was wrong about the year, the correct year was 1957 with the Sox on the road from June 18 to July 4th, 20 games in 20 days, record was 9-11, some off days but 3 double headers, visited every city in the A. L. except Cleveland.
