Sanity prevails.  Getz isn’t a complete doofus.  Next will be Robert on the bench.

Wait I thought "something" was better than "nothing" and now people are complaining about it?

Tauchman asked not to be traded. Has a daughter going through medical issues and his family is all lives in Illinois. Support network to help them out.

  • You can sign Houser to that deal in 4 months if you want. You absolutely take the 40 grade prospect.

I’m guessing Cubs for Houser

yankees I meant

An organization's #3 prospect is about right IMO.

Austin Slater to the yanks

Put a one in front of that 3.

I thought for sure Houser would be a Cub.

Potential return?

Murray jumped the gun

Unlocking as it seems the Houser stuff was wrong.

I like targeting arms in deals for guys that don’t have little to no value

Fine, but then we should have gotten 2 or 3 Vargas’ in that trade.

Sure Marlins did well trading for 2 out-of-options guys.  How about the Sox? Hahn brought us Madeiros and Cordell; and those secondary prospects in the Frazier/Robertson trade that did zilch?  Low minors Rule 5 guys.  Getz trading for the older prospects =  Julks, Fletcher and DeLoach.

I’d say the real bargain, is not the decliner, but the ascender who hasn’t hit the ranked prospect lists.  That’s what the Padres and As got from Hahn.
That’s PCA.  That’s what the Dodgers got from the Cubs for Bush.

Sure. I don't disagree.

i wonder if we fed Murray the fake Houser thing to try to scare someone

Houser to the Cubs is still a good prediction.

This also brings a last-minute showcase for the Katz-rejuvenated Tyler Alexander.

Glad he got scratched

He's essentially a depth piece. Despite his success, I don' think teams would plan to use him in Game 1 or 2 of a series. Maybe Game 3 or 4 if he continues at this pace.

Game 3 starters all the way through the playoffs including starts in the World Series would be a serious trade piece when series can go 7 games and he'd get 2 starts. That's not a depth piece. Depth piece is like given starts in the rotation but maybe you have a better option for the playoffs so you move him into the BP or leave him off the playoff roster.

He could be a #3 IF he continues to pitch at his current level. Pitchers get injured, teams will go with a hot hand, but I don't think any teams are acquiring him as a front-line starter. He's probably a depth piece, #4 type BUT one who has been getting results more towards the top of the rotation.

I'm surprised we haven't heard anything after his scratch. Wonder what is being worked on.

I think they just expect him gone by the deadline tomorrow. Don't think anything was necessarily close.

Any team wanting him has to believe he'll pitch to that upside or you look for a pitcher not pitching as well as Houser but with a better track record . That's what getting a rental to boost your chance at a Championship is all about. Anyone you pick up can be good or bad . You're likely giving up  nearly the same prospect package  for the track record guy pitching worse than u are for the hot pitcher without the track record .

Sure, but he's got a track record of not being this pitcher. A lot of teams need starting pitching. I don't even know that teams are worrying about whether he'd be part of a playoff rotation vs. getting there. He can help based on his performance this season and they wouldn't have to give up a ton given that he's not a high end starter.

Houser replaces a team's bullpen game right now. If he impresses his receiving team in the next two months, maybe he makes a playoff roster.

Yeah, if you’re trading for him you’re not looking for him to be an ace. You probably plug him into the back half of the rotation and hope he keeps it up.
