Oh wait, that's the one of 3 rehabbing arms, right?

Has that rumor been of whom Getz is looking to acquire or whom the Reds are offering?

  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

  • Lukakke Appling

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

Reds still keeping conversations open with Sox on Robert despite recent outfield additions per Whittenmeyer.

Krall just trying to create some leverage.

Getz isn't going to get Petty, the OFer and the pick regardless, especially from a low cash flow team that can't afford to write checks to solve problems.

That's what the Reds reporter either speculated on, or educatedly speculated on. in his first article on this topic.  We have never really gotten a clear report of the Reds are offering the following...

Don't know. I thought that was presented as the level of what the Reds were offering, and that Getz was trying to get another player added.

This is what we know. Nightengale reported on active discussions with Reds and Mets and said Sox are targeting pitching in return. Wittenmyer reported Sox could eat as much as $10 million and he specifically mentioned Brandon Williamson, Chase Petty and Julian Aguiar. The comp pick hasn't been reported anywhere.

I'd take any combination of those arms plus the comp pick for Robert right now pretty easily.

Which probably means it is some combination of the Reds not wanting to give up that much talent and/or the Sox not wanting to eat $10 million, since they haven’t agreed to a deal yet.

I'm surprised Sosa and Robert are still on this team to be honest, I figured they would both be gone before January

I’m not shocked they’re on the team, I’m more shocked that Benintendi is on the team still. Surely there has to be a bad contract for bad contract swap

the reason they can't find a bad contract swap is because Benintendi's Achilles is rumored to be hanging on by a thread

I don't really see the need to just dump Benintendi. Sox could certainly do worse than a league average bat at DH, as we've proven plenty over the past decade. When healthy, Benintendi is fine, and all things considered, his salary is high for the Sox, but not among his peers. Could the Sox do better? Yah, of course. Will they do better if they dump him for a shitty overpaid pitcher? Almost certainly not.

Teel DHs against RHP. They split the catching duty otherwise. Sprinkle Quero in at DH a time or two a week instead of Beni, and/or experiment with Quero at 1B or Teel in LF occasionally.

I understand the concern, but Sox aren't deep enough for this to be a real concern. Injuries will quickly mean none of these guys will have issues getting plenty of at bats when healthy.

Not saying I wouldn't move Beni - I would - but I'm def not just cutting bait, eating $ and DFAing like some want. Makes zero sense.

Out of LF's with 400 PAs, he ranked 32nd of 34 with his 0.2 fWAR.  Even if you ignore his league worst defensive rating (literally 34th of 34), he ranks 23rd of 34 in LF.  Remember that 0.2  is his highest ratings of the three years he has been here, so yes this is who he is.

Ill never understand this, if you keep him you are paying him anyways.

"Well give you X and X but you need to pay $10 million of his salary"

"Wow, hard pass, well just keep him and pay all $20 million, thanks."

Maybe because entertaining a trade of Robert isn't about the money? If they didn't want to pay him, they could have just let him walk. They have no better options for CF right now, either in AA/AAA or even on the free agent market. It seems like he's their 2026 CF until he isn't. The Reds are in their competitive window. If they want to piddle around over a post-hype prospect and two TJS dudes, then they can enjoy another first round sweep, if they even make the playoffs again.

If you pass you still have Robert, for whatever that is worth.  If the money was most important, they should not have exercised his option.

I didn't mean Robert specifically, I just meant I don't get how teams balk at including money in a trade if they're just going to pay him that money anyways if they don't trade them. I don't even know if that's even true in this case, but if it was like I said it makes no sense.

I understand that you're talking about sending money in general, but another thing hit me about Robert. Once you trade him, you lose all control over where he winds up. Trade him and $10M to the Reds for a guy who's already opening his own car wash business, and when the Reds are quite out of it in June, they trade him to the Royals, and now the Sox are paying him to play for the Royals, and he comes back around and kills us for a year and a half.

Well, if its the Robert of the last 2 years I wouldnt mind playing against him.

Honestly, if someone else is able to keep him healthy AND productive for a year and a half, we got a lot of other questions we will need answered, because in six seasons we haven't been able to do that.

At least it’s a source other than Gordon Wittenmeyer.

Given that we are dealing with two tight fisted cheap franchises, I won't be surprised if we remain in a staring contest for the rest of the offseason just like last year.

Sigh...

Yep, this is the problem.  The Reds probably want a lot of Robert’s salary back and don’t want to give up much in the way of prospects.

Getz: No

It’s tough to get prospects in 2025 even if you’re offering a clean player, let alone Luis Robert. It’s likely just a salary dump for nominal dudes  at the end of the day if there actually is a trade. Which would be a damn sight disappointment. Jerry owes us a shot at 2026 entertainment. That’s the least he can do.
