Robert Thread: Sox talking to Reds, Mets

Featured Replies

If they are willing to eat half the salary, the return should be way better than a couple lotto ticket pitchers coming off of Tommy John. If that’s the best offer they’re getting, just keep him.

  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

Get er done Getz! I remember they liked Petty alot coming out of the draft too. Get that comp pick and let's get to work.

I believe the Sox want the Luis Robert era over unfortunately.  Which is fine because he can't stay on the field.  Sox will miss him defensively, but not much offensively.

Petty and a draft pick would be awesome to get.

Petty couldn’t have been worse last year.  I would hate it if he was the key part coming back.

I remember the Sox were interested in Petty awhile ago, but he was bad in AAA. He’s still young, but his prospect shine can’t be what it once was.

I want the Robert era to be over. Another talented, yet underachieving, injury prone player living off of one great season. I appreciate 2023 Robert. He was fun to watch. But its time to move on and getting a 22 year old Petty who throws heat I would not mind.

These are the kind of guys we will see in offers

Same. Completely turn the page on the last core.

Petty was pretty good in 2024.

Robert and Sosa for Petty, Williamson and the comp pick would be awesome.

That seems to be selling incredibly low on Sosa

It would also fit the pattern of post hype prospects.

Then they should just keep him and hope he plays well in the first half of 2026.

What is Sosa's value?  He has no position and is a league average hitter

A bat first 2B.

Count me in as another person done with the Robert era. I’m over gambling on the resurgence and don’t want to be left holding the bag of just paying him to continue to be bad on a bad team.
Get what you can and continue to turn the page of the dreadful past few years of this organization. Jerry needs to not be Jerry and eat $ to maximize the return though

Ah yes I'm sure Robert will undoubtedly last even a half a season with his track record...

You put Sosa in Cincy and he’s a 30 homer 2nd baseman

Well his value is so low at this point anyway that they don’t have anything to lose by rolling the dice again.

Not if there is something at least semi-interesting (a former top prospect or two who has struggled or coming off TJ surgery or something) being offered. You can certainly do worse than that later.

Is Chase Petty considered semi interesting? I don’t really know. I’d target Hector Rodriguez if they are trading with the Reds.

It's worth more to the White Sox NOT to get buried again in April ... playing Hill a lot in CF would do the trick, probably.

Throws 100 with a decent cutter.  No good third pitch and has struggled a bit in AAA and majors.

Go look at Baltimore’s return for Mullens at the deadline. Those were the Robert offers before. Basically nothing. This is much better

If the Sox are willing to eat half or more of his salary and want pitching then get David Stearns back on the phone

I would think of the comp pick being the value in a petty + comp
