I love AJ Ewing, but not sure if they’d give him up. Where is the Clifford talk coming from? Is it a thing, or just speculation on the board?

Just me and @Bob Sacamano trying to will it to fruition

  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

Looking at this lineup written out, I’d honestly rather keep Robert and hopefully extend him and just sign a veteran masher to DH. It’s a lot easier to find a DH than a CF with Robert’s defensive abilities.

I actually don’t disagree with you if it was reasonable, but zero chance the Sox consider a Robert extension and I doubt we’d like the terms Boras would ask for.

I live in the area and can report that Phillies fans are going to riot on Dombroski if the Phillies don’t make a move after losing Bo to the rival Mets.
If they miss on Bellinger it would be nice if Dombroski feels the pressure and makes a move for Robert.

Not wrong unfortunately. But if there was a scenario where they could keep him around long term at a reasonable rate and hit him towards the bottom part of the lineup, I would be happy. He’s a difference maker with the glove alone.

I think their concern is more with his health.  As a league average hitter with his defense and base-running value, he’s easily worth his $20M salary if he give you 140 starts in CF.

He's not worth it when he only plays 3/4 of every season. If you can't stay on the field, your talent is useless.

3/4 is generous

I suspect that the Mets are offering  spare parts (Vientos, e.g.); after Getz rejects offer,  they leak to Heyman that Sox’ demands are unreasonable.  Spare parts worked for Rays  and the Dodgers so I guess they’ll keep trying.

Robert wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near $20 mill w/option in open market.  Reds just got some little salary relief, so offer to pay down $10 mill and see if Sox can nab comp pick and whatever else.  Draft of the decade is coming up, and more cap $ is especially important given their draft philosophy.

What would Robert get on the open market exactly?

Grisham and Cease would lose them draft picks. They could just go after Giolito and O'Hearn, and all they cost is money.

Targeted and lesser equivalent is a thing just ask my ex wife's hotter friend

Most likely a 1 year prove it deal that is heavy with incentives. $8-10 base salary.
I would think the fact that Robert is still on this team should speak volumes to what the rest of the league thinks of him.

I can’t fathom him getting less than Ardolis Garcia.  $8M to $10M is basically like 1 to 1.5 WAR money.  I think his $20M salary is probably closer to reality.

Good for you on that opinion. I’m done arguing with people about Robert. Hopefully you can come back to this post and point out that I’m wrong

Didn't he shake the injury bug last season? Maybe if we put a .500 ish team on the field it'll wake up Robert even more. Has to be tough to play when none of your at bats matter.

If Tucker is $60 million and Bo Bichette is 42 per, $20 million for Luis Robert is NOTHING.

If he were a free agent after this year and put up the same numbers he did last year, you would offer the QO? I have a difficult time saying yes to that question.

For some reason this just transported me to the f*** up of not offering Rodon one after a great season. Not that it’s a similar scenario, but just one of the last players who left as a free agent that would be worth offering the QO to.

Agreed. Contracts are officially out of this world. It's even seeped into the colleges. The Duke quarterback according to reports getting 5-6 mill to play next year at Miami?

Honestly the Dodgers should sign me for like $2 million. Just look under the couch cushions.

Well his fWar the last 2 seasons was .6 and 1.3.  Get his salary down to the value of his actual production and more teams will be interested, such as Reds

When you beat odds of say 1,000-1 to get to be an elite athlete, or elite doctor or elite lawyer or elite broadcaster you should collect big.

Everyone’s favorite corner OF Michael Conforto got $17M from the Dodgers a year ago despite coming off a 1.3 fWAR season and lacking the upside of Luis.

Last year was a different market. I think Robert's kind of worth around $10M right now. He's been too injured and average-y for the league's taste. If he goes out in 2026 and puts up the 3.5 fWAR year he's capable of, the teams might line up for 2027. (If he put that up all season on the WSox, then they pick up his option.)

If his market value right now is 1/$10M, then there is zero chance of trading him for anything of value.  I just can’t accept in one of the worst CF markets I have ever seen, a guy like Robert would have the same market value as Aroldis García and would only get $5M more than Lane Thomas.
