April 1Apr 1 Man, I wish there was a Paul Skenes type pitcher this year. We desperately need an ace, I am not sure Schultz or Smith will turn into one at this point

If not for the injury risks, the discussion would be more challenging. But considering that the Sox have a tough time importing/paying expensive pitching staffs, a rare opportunity to get all 4 young starters on the same cheap financial basis is interesting Edited April 1Apr 1 by Chick Mercedes

They can't tradefor it and are too cheap to sign it.
April 1Apr 1 Drafting pitching high is too risky for an org like the Sox. Buy pitching when the hitting is ready. Hopefully Ishbia is ready to fully invest by then.

Honestly, I think there is zero chance they take the Emerson kid, because they want to get another fast mover into the system. Even their trades seem to be valuing guys who are here, or almost here (see the whole post hype prospect thing, instead of young kids) I would be very surprised if the answer isn't Roch, but if it isn't, I think it is LeBron, and not Flora.

Until ownership changes, no matter how successful our draft pick is, he will just become trade bait in a few years.

If the Sox were to give that out, they would have an extra $2.1 million left over to spend elsewhere, even before the about $380k extra they can give from the 5% overage, and any cost savings on punt picks. Last year the full slot value of the 46th pick was just under $2.1 million, to give you an idea of how much extra space that is. If they combined that total with their 2nd pick at #41, they would be able to put about $4.5 million in front of someone, which is the 2025 equal of slot value for pick #18 in the first round. Even if the Sox gave Roch a new record bonus of $10 million, they will have an extra $1.35 million, or about the value of pick #65 from last years draft.
