White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026

Very bad joke that everyone would refuse to sign with the Sox outside of Thome or Contreras, even if it meant they would have to go back to college as a senior.

I listen to FutureSox (Callis episode was A+) and Sox Machine enough to know it's gonna be Roch barring anything crazy.

I wouldn’t mind grabbing one of them with their #41 pick.

This reads like the kind of careful answer you give when you need to pretend he's not already your guy

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

  • Getz should get drunk tonight and sign an outfielder.

Getz got him free tickets to the game and a voucher for a free future Sox game (parking not included).

I like big thighs on chickens not reporters.

Man, I wish there was a Paul Skenes type pitcher this year. We desperately need an ace, I am not sure Schultz or Smith will turn into one at this point

No they definitely need a franchise player more.

Kinda. But then you’re looking at Charlotte having 3/5 of a MLB rotation in a set. I can see the temptation of finishing it off with the 4th.

No No no

Even if you successfully (25% odds) hit on the right choice...the odds are too high (50-75%) of major injuries in the heart of your contention window.

It would be Dotson Baumgarten Burns Trout (and Hoyt!) 👀

No, yeah. If not for the injury risks, the discussion would be more challenging. But considering that the Sox have a tough time importing/paying expensive pitching staffs, a rare opportunity to get all 4 young starters on the same cheap financial basis is interesting

Not saying we don't need one but based on our recent drafts and our offense/pitching if it was between a guy like Paul Skenes or Roch I think I am taking Skenes every time.

The problem is they cannot find offense on the open market. They can't tradefor it and are too cheap to sign it.

Drafting pitching high is too risky for an org like the Sox. Buy pitching when the hitting is ready. Hopefully Ishbia is ready to fully invest by then.

Except you get a Skenes once every five years in the draft at best.

Skubal, Crochet as well…that’s quite unusual to have that cluster.

The need everything. Honestly, I think there is zero chance they take the Emerson kid, because they want to get another fast mover into the system. Even their trades seem to be valuing guys who are here, or almost here (see the whole post hype prospect thing, instead of young kids) I would be very surprised if the answer isn't Roch, but if it isn't, I think it is LeBron, and not Flora.

What this tells me is that we don't need to wish for another Skenes to fall into our laps, what we need is for the Sox to be an organization that doesn't trade away all-star or, worse yet, generational pitching talent when they either get too expensive to keep or it's time for another rebuild.

Until ownership changes, no matter how successful our draft pick is, he will just become trade bait in a few years.

The current record bonus is $9.25 million. If the Sox were to give that out, they would have an extra $2.1 million left over to spend elsewhere, even before the about $380k extra they can give from the 5% overage, and any cost savings on punt picks. Last year the full slot value of the 46th pick was just under $2.1 million, to give you an idea of how much extra space that is. If they combined that total with their 2nd pick at #41, they would be able to put about $4.5 million in front of someone, which is the 2025 equal of slot value for pick #18 in the first round. Even if the Sox gave Roch a new record bonus of $10 million, they will have an extra $1.35 million, or about the value of pick #65 from last years draft.
