I blasted the Shields trade when it happened for two reasons:

1.) He was trash leading up to the trade.

2.) Figured if I could hit him as a teenager then opposing teams should tee off on him.

Yep. It was funny because I seem to remember that we had heard about the trade rumors well before it happened and Shields went out and had some awful starts right before the trade went down. I can’t remember exactly how many starts Shield had after we all had initially heard the rumor but it was definitely enough time for Hahn to re-think the trade and not go through with it.

Whitesoxdave had the trade like a week before. Pretty sure the rumor broke the same day the Sox blew that awful game at KC.

That was one of the worst moves ever...I mean by any team, anywhere, any time. Rick Hahn, executive of the year ? No. He gets a failing grade. Hahn didn't do his homework. I was glad when JR fired Hahn and KW but he should have done it long before. He trusted those guys and they didn't deserve it.

Shields gave 10 runs in Seattle right before the trade. A couple of weeks later, use a first round pick for a quick-to-the-majors college reliever. 6 Weeks after that, Hahn announces it's time to rebuild.

Problem with that trade was never Tatis Jr that was just downstream of the terrible decision to double down on a flawed roster.
