I read somewhere that with the new hirings starting with Getz, the Sox intend to be a talent and minor league development titan of some note. That was music.

Since the hire of Brian Bannister and the start of the Chris Getz era, the White Sox have sought to become a development juggernaut and have had some early examples of success

You think Barfield should be canned because of one bad trade that you were a massive fan of when it first went down?

Hey now youre going to be accused of stalking the poor guy and he's going to block you. 🤣

You better back off bub ! 😋😜 ( these emojis mean I'm just being facetious  for anyone not sure)

Maybe bigger font will accentuate the point even more?

If only it would make it come true.

Let's beat the Twins for fourth before worrying about juggernauts and possible dynasties.

It has only been six years since the last budding dynasty.

Font size intended as a Rorschach test. Either as a post of the absurd, or we are on the way to supplying the majors with surplus talent 🤤

Im not sure youre talking about the same person ,the sarcastic optimist or the Debbie Downer  ?

You have to admit that even moves that are difficult to find fault with there's always the guy saying how lucky or hilarious it all is.

I lean more pessimistic myself and even I’ve gotten tired of it.

The foundational changes he has made should not be understated.  He basically wiped out the previous group of international scouts and has built a brand new team under David Keller.  He has modernized what was a terribly broken Analytics department and has integrated it throughout all major functional areas of the org.  He has built a new, beefed up Acquistions group under Matt Grabowski to bring a more data-centric element to player evaluation alongside traditional pro scouting under Gene Watson in new position in that area.  He’s invested in key technologies like Hawk-Eye and iPitch machines to enhance both our biomechanics and player development functions.  He’s added designated leaders to oversee pitching and hitting across the org.  He’s greatly expanded the size of the front office by hiring three Assistant GMs with specific responsibilities and has added other new roles including a Director of Major League Strategy and Director of Leadship, Culture, & Education.  I’m sure there are many other changes & hires I’m not outlining above, but his efforts have been substantial and should warrant some praise from fans.

And most of this has happened after he got rid of Grifol.

I think his 1st year on the job was just familarizing just trying to evaluate the people who were still left from the old regime that he wanted gone and making some upgrades that were long overdue.

After that came the major hirings that are still ongoing.

I kept saying that fans dont really buy into structural changes . The backlash was always " we' ve heard all this before" and the running joke about the early KC hires.

But it's pretty  clear now that he's getting some respect. Im glad your post outlined as much as you can remember.

Ive been doing it piecemeal throughout the process and felt the backlash because it just takes a while for most serious organizational practices to change the outcomes on the field.

And without backing from ownership to put real money into the roster it's still a battle that is extremely difficult to win until it translates to sustainable success on the field, even moreso with Covid, labor disputes and interference from the meddling owner who never realized the importance of putting money into multiple layers of player development domestically and abroad.

JR will get praised for having some high ( for him) payrolls but a lot of things got neglected when the player payroll was high.

Why si this thread 5 pages? Do I want to know?

Mainly because showing our front office some respect is not an easy thing to do for many people until the results start showing up on the diamond.

But generally people are good with a former front office Tampa Bay executive being hired.

You’ve never had a job where a moron was in charge and you couldn’t do anything about it?

I've had situations where I had horrible leaders, and I've still succeeded in transformations and leading.

All jokes aside, seems like a fine hire. Guy has a good background with nice success. Assistant GM's aren't really moving needles though in the baseball world, so most teams/fans wouldn't really be celebrating news like that.

If he was our actual GM, maybe I'd be more excited. Instead, the guy we have is way in over his head as has been apparent for 2+ years now.

Everybody has always gone silent when I've posed the question. In interviews, do they tell the prospective boss that they've worked for a moron, so they're fated to make the same bad decisions the bad boss did?

Managing up is probably one of the most important attributes of any leader who is deserving of promotion/next steps in their career.

If you can't manage up, you simply won't succeed. In Getz role, managing up now means getting his boss (ownership) to do uncomfortable things, sign bigger contracts etc. Never forget that the Padres weren't big spenders until Preller came in and sold ownership. Getz has the Sox running the lowest relative payroll since I followed the team.

People are celebrating Getz selling a vision to a guy he is literally offering a promotion too. The promotion alone is the most valuable thing he's selling.

It doesn't mean the guy isn't smart or capable. As I said, wouldn't have minded hiring him as our GM. Instead, that guy's now got an idiot above him that he has to overcome to succeed at his job.

Should have gone in house with a guy who already knows the franchise for a quicker turnaround!

I can't help wondering if anyone besides Getz pulled the trigger on this hire. If it was all Getz, then good for him.

I think it can't be stated enough that Getz emphasizes a team effort in many important decisions . There are scouts and heads of departments and analytical data people who are all likely  consulted on player acquistion.

Getz just doesnt wake up one morning and say to Carlos Rodriguez hey do you want to be Asst.GM ? This could've been in the works since he lost his last job. I'm sure someone keeps track of execs from other clubs and their histories, like a scouting report of executives.

One guy cannot be an expert in all facets of creating what Getz is trying to create and he's likely aware of his weak points. This is why you surround yourself with people with good reputations in other areas of team and culture building.

Who is he offering a promotion to?

Sounds like Getz managed up in order to clean house, remake the entire organization. I'm sure Getz has gone over plans and budgets with Reinsdorf and has parameters he will act within. No, the job of the GM is not to force the owner of the team into bankruptcy.

Rodriguez was Asst GM in TB, and he's asst GM here. A good boss is confident hiring people more knowledgeable and experienced than they are.

When you resort to name-calling, you lose credibility. You should incorporate that fact into your Ted-talk.
