He seems really excited to be a White Sox, and you don’t always get that from a Sox free agent signing press conference lol

When's the last time the white sox HAD a free agent press conference of note?

Beni?

Any before him?

You know how the Sox work. They’re opening a Japanese pipeline

In reading the tone of the Japanese news media stories, they seem a little surprised by the destination, but quote Murakami extensively as being excited to be a part of a team that's on the upswing.

Don't think the Yakult Swallows cheerleaders will fly in the US.

This is very very tame compared to the Korean and Taiwanese dance teams that often draw more attention than the action on the field.

The most shocking thing for American baseball fans in Japan is the majority of stadium vendors, especially beer sales, are conducted by young women lugging these canisters/mini kegs of beer up and down the steep stairs (think GRF upper deck at Tokyo Dome)

"We wanted to establish a presence in the [Pacific] Rim and that starts with hiring a scout, Satoshi Takahashi," Keller said. "Once we were able to get him on board, I think that's where those conversations became more real."

"Got Jerry [Reinsdorf] up to speed on the reality of bringing in Mune," said Getz, using Murakami's preferred nickname. "The more he was hearing from me, and Brooks as well on the marketing front and the international impact that it can have in bringing in someone as significant as Mune, led us to get to the finish line. A lot of that was support from Jerry in the end."

That is both promising and pathetic.

They’re also warning of the high heat and high humidity in the summers… which is like Chicagoans warning Floridans about our summers.

Never been but from all accounts friends and otherwise Tokyo is a fucking sweat box similar to NYC in the summer. Chicago ain't got nothing on that swamp ass.

More shocking to me is the “women only” train cars to hedge against groping and that every cellphone has a clicker sound on the camera to hedge against upskirt photos. Weird place.

Also, why do all three women in that Instagram have hair styles like they are trying to cosplay anime characters?  Some weird ass fetishes there apparently.

They don't really honor that system at rush hour.

That said, the South Korean bathroom hidden cameras and paparazzi scandals with celebs, along with oppressive school bullying and relentless academic pressure is quite something.

Japan does have that just weird/bizarre factor, a lot of it reflected in anime/manga/cosplay.
