But he’s 26 years old and I have no doubt that he will get plenty of chances with a team that pretty much has an entire roster full of unproven outfielders if you consider Benintendi primarily a DH going forward. FWIW, Kelenic somehow hit worse than Acuna did in AAA if that’s possible and doesn’t offer the defensive & base-running value that the latter does. I still think he should have to prove that any swing changes him and Fuller make this offseason actually work in AAA before he gets a major league shot.

46DidIt
Acuña could very well be more productive than Robert next year on his own. Then you have the fact just last year Pereira hit 21 dongs in 297 abs at AAA, the year following being ranked 67. Along with Murray for Steven Wilson and a mid-season dumpster dive. Not sure what kind of return you were expecting there. Not sure how Mead for a mid-season dumpster dive signing is a bad move either. That is literally turning nothing into something. I like all these moves (outside of Acuna) in isolation. But we now have a ton of guys with no options, so these type of moves create some challenges from a roster construction perspective.

greg775
Acuna looked hitterish/homerish in that clip of the four home run game. He could look good in the lineup if he plays the outfield. If Getz acquires two good pitchers now with the savings maybe the Sox can go .500 or so. Use that Robert money to sign two veteran pitchers, no more prospects, have plenty of them. Then with the prospects, and whatever else they buy, there’s a good chance they can come-out ahead once Robert grabs his hammy again. But that’s hard to earmark. It would be a very weird thing he didn’t have to directly lie about.

Yeah, I don’t see why he would set himself up like that unless they were intent on following through.

poppysox
I don't understand why Jerry wants to be the managing partner if he can't afford to play the game. Estate taxes are not driven by the title you have. Taxes are driven by the value of the holding at his time of death.

It’s admittedly weird to hate someone you have never have met, but my distaste for him is truly immense. Like I hate the dude with a passion for destroying two of my three favorite sports teams. He pretty much lacks any of the qualities I look for in an owner and we have been stuck with himself forever. And he’s so fucking stubborn and refuses to relinquish control because it’s somehow fun overseeing hilariously bad organizations. The only saving grace is that Ishbia is going be very different with a modern perspective on things and that sweet, sweet private equity money. 2

It’s very possible the Sox really like Acuna, but at the same time only made this trade because Jerry made them dump salary. Lying to the media is a key part of a GM’s job. I don’t agree that Getz trading for 40 man roster depth is a bad thing when the cost is practically nothing. Tristin Peters may end being useless, but he cost us nothing and probably gives us a replacement level floor if needed. We saw under Hahn the dangers of having zero depth at the AAA level. As long as the costs are reasonable and they aren’t blocking someone, these are smart moves to make. Let's always forget Getz was a failed farm director unless you are into always blaming the guy above

He could have gone out and traded for a Tristan Peters or simply signed better AAAA types to minor league deals.
