Rumor: White Sox in potential discussion(s) with Red Sox....

Haha yeah, idk. I really haven’t seen much of Meidroth actually playing so I’m just reacting to the stat line and the physical projection/reputation. Probably not totally fair.

But, how much better is Meidroth than Romy Gonzalez, really? Very different players for sure, but if you are the Red Sox and trying to find a significant net gain out of that slot, I’m just not sure Meidroth is the target.

My understanding is the Red Sox’s rotation is super ground ball heavy so Chase’s club offers significant value in that regard.  I also think Chase will eventually hit RHP which Rome can’t really do.

  • I think a lot of you guys overrate Meidroth. His trading value might never be as high as right now. Especially with Antonucci being just a year away.

  • I have a hard time believing Boston is going to salary dump a guy who was regarded as a top 10 prospect in MLB just a year ago

Pretty sure this is trade is dead. Player on the Red Sox side and it wasn't Hicks failed the medicals.

Back to the drawing board for a starting pitcher.

Sandoval?

It was a prospect going back to the White Sox. I have a few ideas on who it might be but wasn't given a name.

So Sox were getting back a pitcher and a prospect from Boston?

Yeah and what sounds like some money but I don't know how much.

Adding someone good enough to help the major league roster?

I think there’s only like 2 guys that would be considered “major” trade players on the  team, and they’re not moving

Maybe…but he has the 53rd highest Steamer 600 projection for fWAR amongst positional players.  And if you look at the list, every other player above or around him is a legit awesome baseball player.  I think a lot of people actually underrate Chase and don’t see the unicorn that he is.

He has a lot more power than people think (i.e., enough to keep outfields honest). He isn't Madrigal. I think we'll see it this year

What would we even send back getting a pitcher and prospect.

If he can just get to some more doubles in the gap (to keep the D honest) he can get back to being a .360+ OBP player which combined with good D is at least a 2 win player.

Your source is good. Sox were going to take back Hicks and receive a pitching prospect from Boston in like 10-15ish range. Sox were only giving back a back end top 30 pitching prospect. There were some medical issues. Don’t think this one is happening.

Had it gone through, would you have liked it? Sounds essentially like taking on Hicks’ contract and upgrading a SP prospect in the process.

Medical issues with Hicks or the other pitcher coming back?

It’s the other pitcher. Initially I thought it was Hicks but was not him surprisingly.

Happy the deal is not likely. Hicks isn’t good

Yep.  It must have been a decent chunk of cash Boston would have been sending over.  Hicks for 2-years and $24 million doesn’t sound great.

It was Hicks + pitching prospect though.

Jordan Hicks has OK peripherals. Those saying he's bad may want to buckle up for the type of guy we're actually going to get then.. which may be like German Marquez level.

Beyond Hicks though I really like the idea that we are open to taking on another team's money and then getting sweeteners in the deal. That is big-boy organization behavior. Dodgers do this regularly to just keep piling on value upon value.

If we're willing to take on money and if the medicals were not related to Hicks why not take his contract in a package to reduce the compensation for Bello.

Given how the Robert trade played out, I’m skeptical that they would actually ever do this.

Yep, seems like it would have been the perfect time to do it, especially in a trade with the Reds, and they still didn’t.

I think Griffin Canning could show out here for a $5mil-ish deal. Márquez would be a lot more disappointing. I'm surprised he hasn't signed yet, his injury is probably pretty concerning.

Because the Red Sox probably don’t want to do that. Simple

Exactly.  Hicks doesn’t have any value.  Bello does, and a lot of it.
