I don't think the Sox will have that much trouble finding 3 guys to DFA. Here are some names: Eisert, Gilbert, Hudson, Iriarte, Lee, Romo, Mead, Hill, and Peters. Pick any 3 of those.

Lee seems like a useful trade chip. Decent backup with decent power. Won't get much but better than a DFA.

Shoulder issues is what I heard was the hold up. But I might have been wrong. This was probably a one off of inside source for me lol.

Or this is what knocked the Red Sox's ask down from Leasure to accept Ziehl.

Sandlin looks like a reliever to me.

Agreed. Two potentially plus pitches that get a little more life and consistency out of the pen. Just odd that 10% of the Sox payroll is going to be Hicks.

I think it was always going to be Ziehl.

Iriarte and Romo are the casualties, not what I expected

Also a future two for one PTNBL swap pending

Good thought, but the WS would have known all about the issue right away. If original deal that was going down was changed, there has to be a different reason?

Yeah I really thought Romo would stick around since he has options. I would have gone with Hudson and Hill probably

Looks like Hicks will be a reliever to start

Starting to believe Iriarte isn’t going to be what I had hoped.

Good

I’m guessing starter

I still find Hicks intriguing, but I just don't see how he starts. His sinker isn't good enough at 96, and it comes too close to the slider in velocity and basically kills that pitch.

What a bust

Sox save $16 million. The Red Sox side of the deal is confusing

Makes sense.

Sandlin as a part of the starting rotation is interesting though...

So I guess they technically still need a starter if Hicks is in the bullpen and Sandlin would be a later add like Bob is confirming?

I think he meant the Red Sox save $16M. He didn’t specify but the math works right. Typical Boob to not specify in a deal involving 2 Sox teams

I’d have Hicks out of the pen and see if he can harness his stuff in short stints. Does he still have his elite velocity?

Yup

The pen could be more stuffed up than allergy season if things go well

That entire trade has been just brutal.

Makes spring training more interesting at the very least.

Didnt Nightengale get the momey part wrong  ? Saving $8M not $16M

Bob thinking Boston paying $8M per year not the reported $4M per year.

Bob being Boob again getting the money wrong.

Worth noting we added two 40-man guys so including Hays, we need to clear 3 spots.

I don’t know enough about Sandlin to have strong feelings here, but adding two more guys who require 40 man spots (including one who has to be on the 26 man roster) seems kind of crazy to me.  This trade screams Bannister and I wish I had more confidence in him when it comes to trades like this right now.

I think we’re getting two PTNL as well, and Boston get one?

No, Red Sox only get one
