Teel injured in WBC - Grade 2 hamstring strain, out 4-6 weeks

Obviously the injury sucks because Teel won’t be ready for opening day.  But couldn’t the blessing in disguise be that Lee makes the roster to start the season instead of being dumped for nothing and is then possibly slipped through waivers and outrighted to Charlotte once Teel is ready?

And to expand on this, I’m sure there are a few teams that would rather have Lee as their backup catcher than whomever they currently have, but would they take the chance to claim Lee after only a couple weeks into the season while needing Lee to learn an all new pitching staff?  Perhaps he could be slipped through waivers for this reason.  I love the idea of retaining all four catchers going forward — Teel, Quero, Lee and Romo.  Ironically, Hahn is responsible for both Quero and Lee but Getz did a good job of acquiring Teel and Romo.  This has to be the best the Sox have looked at the catcher position in ages, especially if they can manage to keep all four guys.

Reminds me of when we lost Eloy for 6 months trying to rob a homer in the WBC final for the Dominican Republic... oh wait that was in ST. What about every other ST injury that happens all the time???

It’s like a hammy pull.  No one is thinking he needs his leg amputated.  It’s a sport in which injuries happen, just like in ST.  It sucks but it is what it is.

In fairness it’s the biggest game Teel will play in all year (well until tomorrow - if he is able to go).

They also have that 18 year old kid who looks somewhat promising.

Catcher-needy teams will also have other options before Teel's return, since some vet backup types will have opt outs for not making the 40.

For example, old friend Matt Thaiss has an upward mobility clause that triggers a few days before OD. If any team is willing to offer him a roster spot, Boston has to either roster him themselves or trade him to a team that will. Easier to nab him for free than wait for Lee to potentially hit waivers.

No need to rush him but nice to hear the prognosis is good

and this is supposed to be a grade 2 strain?

'He's in the best shape of his life' 😄 (Well it is a Merkin story/tweet right?)

meh

Watchability of the team is going to be a good bit better when he's back.
