I am not defending the move, because it seems pretty simple to me to keep Lee over signing McGuire. But if they just don't like Lee, I can at least understand why the didn't go Quero / Romo. They were able to successful sneak Romo through waivers - if they actually like Romo as a depth piece for later in the season, calling him up for 2 weeks, and then exposing him to waivers again (and even if he clears, will be able to reject outright 2nd time), then he's no longer a depth piece after 3-4 April appearances.

So I can at least understand that part of it. Holding him on the 40 all winter actually worked out well for the Sox, because now he is non-roster depth.

When I first read the story, I thought it happened outside of a “strip club”. It still would have been ridiculously stupid but it would have been one small step closer to making some sort of sense, and no I don’t condone public master baiting, only for fishermen. But nope, it happened outside of a “strip mall”.

I think it’s safe to say Korey Lee was overvalued by quite a few posters. We know he can’t really hit all that well outside of the occasional bomb. Also, the Sox apparently weren’t a fan of his work behind the plate, although he seemed to have a good throwing arm.

It’s 7 days now. It used to be 10. I believe if the team puts the DFA player on waivers, it triggers a 24-48 hour waiver period. Which means no team put in a claim for Lee. Mead either hasn’t cleared waivers, or the outcome hasn’t been reported yet. The Sox could actually use the full 7 days to look for a trade. Maybe the Nationals might want Mead via trade or waiver claim? They are pretty Meadiocre at corner infield already. 🤣
