  • Makes plenty of sense to me. He's been terrible. Let him work on getting his confidence and stuff back in AAA. If it works, and he remains a useful starter, you just bought a year of control. If it

Never had a whole lot of faith he's gonna stick in the MLB, but I guess we'll find out. Hopefully they send Murphy to Charlotte.

His fastball command was still terrible yesterday and he’s killing the bullpen, might as well give him a start or two in AAA to iron out the issues in a low pressure environment. Don’t hate it.

But he even broke a major league record with his performance...

He's basically an Opener only so far in 2026, but not on purpose. He HAS to go find FB command, and he has options.

”I think the injury/durability concerns that will go with Smith (which is why he was an undrafted collegiate FA signee to begin with and exposed him early to the Rule 5 draft) factor in alot, too.

His stuff is MLB-caliber, but not necessarily as a front of the rotation starter until he proves he can be that type of workhorse.  As this season wears on, it's clear Smith will have to potentially try proving that in 2026 - because that's not happening this season.

Was it a mistake to leave Smith exposed in the Rule 5 draft?  Yes - but I don't think it was a travesty considering how many arms the Brewers have in their organization and on their MLB roster who Smith would likely sit behind on the pecking order for innings in Milwaukee.“

”It’s not clear that he would be one of the Brewers’ seven best starting pitchers at this point. BrewerFan makes a great argument that losing Smith forced the Priester trade. OTOH the Brewers clearly had their eyes on Priester for a while, including at the time they cut bait on Smith. Would they have even (rightly or wrongly) given Smith a shot?  They appear to have liked Priester more. We’ll see if they were right or wrong.

BTW, we should probably convert this into a “tracking ex-Brewers organization starting pitchers on the White Sox” thread.  Adrian Houser, who was unpitchable for the Mets last season, is having a career year. Bryse Wilson and Aaron Civale have managed the impressive achievement of making the White Sox worse.”

Brewers Call Up Left-Hander Shane Drohan For MLB Debut

In the first injury news of the regular season affecting the Milwaukee Brewers' pitching staff, left-handed reliever Jared Koenig was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday with a sprained UCL in hi

Not sure you're getting more then 3IP out of Schweitzer his first time out so if the goal was to save the bullpen in the next few starts pretty sure you just did the opposite.

I'm hoping the MLB pitching staff is like a revolving door with Charlotte. Keep shuffling everyone with options until they make an undisputable case for a MLB job.

Fedde should be cut within a month and if Kay isn't giving you quality innings then it's time to try him out of the pen.

Surprising but not necessarily unexpected. I think it's a good move to let him go down and work on his command. He's lost something with his fastball, and he needs to find it.

My guess is that he serves as an extra pen pitcher in the short term, and then either gets sent back down, or someone else does, when Smith's turn comes up to start, someone else gets called up to start.

That would make more sense. I guess we're going to see A Davitt debut.

That's what I would expect. The pen has been already running a dude short with Taylor doing the Opener thing, but on top of it, the starters have been awful as a unit. They have definitely been less than half of the teams innings up to this point, which is rough on a pen.

Doesn't this put in line for a Schultz call-up? I think it would be 1 day past the service timeline should he start for Smith. No idea where hes at in terms of IP

99 pitches along with 5 walks in 3.2 innings did it.

You could, though that requires a 40 man move. Guys like Sandlin, Davitt, and McDougal are all already on the 40.
