Exactly. And why would Murakami even consider an extension at this point? He is 1.5 years away from an absolutely massive generational wealth contract. He will get to choose where he wants to play, along with the highest offers. Not some piddly 2-3 year hometown discount extension. And perhaps he wants to play with his buddy in LA?

Curious what it would have taken to lock him up for several years from the beginning, rather than the 2 year deal he signed. That was probably the Sox only hope.
