Welp, I think the Sox outplayed the Angels by a little bit in this one. Just didn't get the points. Oh well, hope they take the series tomorrow.

Good pitching matchup

The Sox have had more guys off waivers bat cleanup in the last 3 years then the entire history of the franchise, probably. Just a disgusting lineup in every way. I get resting guys. I don't get forcin

You have 2 challenges, like LAA, make them show it. Its the 9th, you can't take them with you.

I agree with you but people seem to generally outside of this board critique quero for the same reason because there's only two pitches left. There will be deep dives into the psychology of challenges, maybe it makes a pitcher reluctant even if it was a strike because it was too close for his comfort or a batter and vice versa. I'm challenging a ball that hits the guy just because it would be funny in the last inning and some dudes lean in too much who knows?

anyways go white sox. tough loss we should have won and we're tied with the royals instead of being the best team in baseball history as some thought yesterday.

Yeah his bad performance isn’t a fluke. His baseball savant page is crazy awful.

Worst lineup of the year, so undoubtedly Sox will win it like 8-3.

Unfortunately that didn't work.

Disappointed that in a game that you could reach .500 and potentially move into 1st place that you put out that lineup. I understand the timing of resting MM was bad but the rest of the lineup was about as bad as it gets.

Angels tried to give it to the Sox but they missed the chance.

The plate discipline on display was good to see.

Quero needs to be sent down, the swing just isn’t there right now. Teel might be weeks away, I’m fine with Romo being the guy right now till Teel is back.

Bullpen was good too.

Zeferjahn is super interesting. Conventional wisdom says sweepers don't work against oppo hitters. But that's his main pitch against oppo-handed hitters and he is much more effective against oppo-handed hitters than same-handed. Hitters are whiffing against his sweeper on about half of their swings against it (see Colson and Kelenic in this game). Batters were .074 against it entering this game. He's doing something very deceptive but I'm not sure what it is because its shape is very good but not a total outlier or anything. Main thing I notice is it drops even less than most sweepers...maybe why those guys in the 9th were swinging under it.

Little angrier tonight cause game was winnable plus the being .500 and in 1st place woulda been nice. Oh well, win it tomorrow and start playing at home. Got PCAAA coming soon

Fedde facing guys for a third time was bad

whoever got in his head needs to be fired. he gained 15 lbs of fat too. Some guys need that weight like Vargas, but not Quero.

at least it's nice to be pissed off about a game to get to .500

Yep, this team is still extremely limited, but the 1/2 second that I thought Murakami might have homered was pretty damn exciting

Tough task for Fedde facing the same lineup back to back, especially when he went 7 last time so they saw plenty of him. Good bullpen performance though.

Smart of them to pitch around Vargas in that spot, Colson got pitches to hit though.

Take the series and road trip tomorrow and it's fine

Feels good to be mad about a game that had some early season implications.

I think if we take Fedde out after the Neto home run this might have been different. Also don't understand letting Quero hit, he has been awful all season. Batting him 5th? Another awful decision. Antonacci last? He got one less AB this game because of it and Quero got one more AB.

Quero should have been 8 or 9.

Yeah it didn't make much sense. They had a lefty out there that at best was going give 4 innings, I wouldn't base your whole line up on that

He's hitting the ball about one inch further out in front on average as a LHH this season compared to last season, still fairly extreme relative to others in the league in terms of letting the ball get very deep on him. Bat is still oriented towards the opposite field at contact more than almost every other hitter in the league, but not quite as extremely as last season. One thing I notice looking at the Statcast data on this is that his center of mass is 6 inches closer to the pitcher this season compared to last (partly due to his feet being more spread apart, I think). That's probably going to cut down on reaction time a bit.

I'll say something positive about Edgar: his framing looks like it may have significantly improved. Still not good, but not necessarily so bad that he couldn't possibly hit his way into positive value like it was last season. Of course now he needs to find a way to regain the offense he lost.

In a game where the bullpen did a great job and have shown much improvement in the last couple weeks the hitting fell short.

Tyler Davis and Hudson have been great and Seranthony has been pretty good lately too.

Colson and Kelenic swung through some hangers that last inning. Quero needs to go back to AAA and work on his mechanics. He's an absolute mess at the plate right now.

Montgomery needs to up his contact skills to go from a good player to a great player. He needed to get that run in in the 9th. He just Ks too much.

This was a forfeit lineup.

I would think getting to .500 would be some kind of goal for this team.

Having Acuna play SS just messes the lineup.

Just for fun I wanted someone, even Colson to lay down a bunt to see Antonacci bulldoze the catcher. Antonacci's value to the team goes beyond his stats. His HBP, steal and advancement to 3rd set the stage for what should have been the tie or maybe a win. I am hoping that the next step we see in Antonacci's development will be tagging some home runs. It's going to happen.

I have white sox friends in the northwest that are worried that we're going to start a lineup without montgomery, vargas or mune and bat like a guy that hit one home run in AA when the sox play there and it's a valid fear.

Playing the worst players in the history of the team when you have a chance of taking first place is just really fucking annoying but par for the course when it comes to stoic bad manager man

Highest batting average in the majors on bunts, around .650.
