The best option is him at first, and not disrupting Vargas and Colson all that much. The point is for him to come up, play 1st, and fucking mash.

11 hours ago11 hr Dick Allen played 3rd and some outfield in the NL. When he came to the Sox he played first base exclusively. When a former NL opponent asked him what you had to do to play first, he reportedly said, “Hit like a motherf***er.” Which he did. If Gonzales swings it like he had been, he’ll be fine playing first.

If he passed through waivers, I'd think that would happen in a couple of days.Kelenic rejected being out righted to Charlotte and has elected free agency. He is gone.

He hasn't really hit until he started the season in the infamous bandbox. He's not fast, and not really known for his glove, at any position. He should have been the heir apparent at 2B, but again, hasn't hit until this year. It's really only LaMonte Wade, or Gonzo. If he can really hit, he has a good 6 weeks of runway to prove it.

If he doesnt hit much, he can be a utility player. Having too many good player on the roster is not a problem.

I mean, it's been Charlie Wilson, or JB Shuck, or Danny Mendick. Gonzo will most likely OPS .600 and be sent right back down on Mune's return, or maybe he'll stick. It's a fun story line. This is where I don't understand the hate for Getz. The 1st rebuild fails because while they were tanking they never quite tanked bad enough to get top draft picks in a time where you could really suck like Houston and did and be drafting in the Top 3 for multiple years. But still they sucked at drafting and Player Development so the influx of talent dried up .A lot of people hated Getz automatically because of his ties to the Sox in the previous regime. But under his leadership the Sox purged a lof of that old regime. But still cries went up to purge everyone . But if that happened then Mike Shirley would be gone too and Getz also had the sense to keep Shirley and he's been nailing it while Getz also hired Directors of Hitting and Pitching for the Franchise Ryan Fuller and Brian Bannister in Player Development so now Shirley's picks have better tutelage on the road to The Show.2 rebuilds and Getz had less talent to trade to get huge minor league talent except for Crochet. It's early but the Crochet trade may end up better than the Sale trade. Our draft picks and the guys from trades seem to be clicking and a Japanese Superstar fell into our laps and scrap heap pickups continue to shuffle in and out of the lineup and a few come up aces while a few get away if they don't perform immediately ( Mead). That's just the nature of cycling through a ton of AAAA guys. This will also happen but when I see people suggesting trading guys like Jacob Gonzalez, Billy Carlson or Grant Taylor ( from last year) for reinforcements for this year it's hard to fathom. Some prospects we trade away will blossom. That happens if you have a lot of talent like Dodgers with Michael Busch and Vargas and Yordan Alvarez. The difference of course is it doesn't matter to the Dodgers because they buy what they want and play in So Cal which is a preferred destination of not only MLB talent but also Japanese talent. The Sox can't afford to yet talent that they developed slip through their fingers when injuries and non performance can happen to our talented group of youngsters as we have seen (Teel, Vasil , Shane Smith , Quero,Murakami and a long list of pitching injuries and non linear development among our top MiLB pitchers.) The smart play is just stay the course and let things play out the closer we get to the TDL. How the Mune injury and contract , the eventual return of Teel , how Gonzalez plays, how Schultz pitches ,and the eventual call up of Braden Montgomery, the Dominican Academy and our 1-1 draft pick will determine not only the immediate future but the future of the franchise. The Sox can never be the Dodgers because no matter how much Ishbia spends (hopefully) Chicago is still not So Cal.Many may not have believed it in 2024 but Getz should have earned some credit by now no matter how much you hated him and hated how the 1st rebuild failure broke your heart through underlying franchise incompetence.

But not sure what the point is of Gonzalez if he’s just playing first base.To get as many AB's as possible against the majority of starting pitchers. That's all we really need him for now. Give him a lot of AB's and see if he can show his bat off. This doesn't mean he wont get time at DH or other positions occasionally. They want to put call ups in a position to succeed but since they were forced to call him up they will make it easier on him by just letting him concentrate on hitting and staying mostly at 1 position.
