He was replacement level before the injury. He hasn't thrown a ball in anger in what, 15 months? There is zero reason to expect him to contribute anything this season, and not much optimism beyond it, unless somehow he starts throwing 94-95 instead of 90-91.
1 hour ago1 hr Good news on Teel. This means he could be back this year, even if this feels like a lost year for him at this point from a production stand point. The good news is, he will likely have a normal offseason and can be 100% coming into next year.Achilles tear would have been a disaster.

Even a high ankle should be 2-3 weeks.

I'd say 4-6 weeks at best. This s%*# can linger. But as @Bonemer, I Hardly Know Her said at least now he can have a productive offseason if nothing else. Everything was fubar for him this year starting with probably over training in the offseason and then ramping up too fast for the WBC.Teal is a very intense guy, I think he was desperate to be a part of this team and maybe was just squeezing the bat, his body and his mind a little too hard. You guys are dogging that video of him on the training machine but that machine is designed to safely test forces, the machine gives way, the ground does not. That training had nothing to do with his injuries. Adding mass and ramping up too quickly and just bad luck was the cause. Edited 1 hour ago1 hr by chitownsportsfan

Not sure why Teel, or any hitter, would choose to bulk up for power instead of focusing on other things like agility. leverage and bat speed.Teel decided to bulk up, at least in part, in order to gain more power. As to whether that was worth it, the proof is in the pudding. An additional 20 pounds on the same hamstrings, knees, ankles, and Achilles is a lot. Pick up a five pound dumbbell in each hand (let alone 10 lb dumbbells), and then walk or jog holding those, or try a few squats.Setting aside weight gain and conditioning as possibly contributing to repeated injury...look at a replay of the injury. Teel's spikes were loaded with the reddish sand/soil behind home plate. As SS2K noted, it looked like Teel's foot actually dug into that soft sandy soil before he made a move and injured it. Yes, I'm mad, and I'm blaming the Rangers' ground crew as well.Because of my age and the herniated disc in my back I only work with 2 8 lb colored soft lady dumbbells and I actually do go on walks for around a 1/2 mi perhaps and I do curls as I'm walking since with the arm swing of walking it feels natural. Also wear a back brace on these walks to keep my posture correct and as a precaution for carrying the 16 extra lbs. and the curls. I have to be extra mindful of the terrain because there are dips and bumps in the sidewalk due to tree roots and driveways that extend to the curb so a lot of small peaks and valley's to take a misstep that can really jolt your back or result in a ankle sprain or a trip and fall. Sometimnes I will vary the length of my stride or stop and do stair stepping exercises on the curb or walk backwards and sideways just to vary the routine and use different muscles.I don't even feel it in my legs afterwards, a little in my hips and arms but I feel I'm getting more toned and stronger. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to stay active. Just prepare yourself for falls maybe a bicycle helmet and knee braces too if you feel your knees aren't that strong. If their is a track near you like around a football field for track and field athletes that is ideal. Nice level ground and softer than concrete. Edited 1 hour ago1 hr by CaliSoxFanViaSWside
1 hour ago1 hr Phew! I mean, it sucks that he might be out another 4 weeks or whatever, but better than the alternative people were fearing.
