I know people will say giving up a massive haul for a reliever is a risk, but he’s automatic and has 3.5 years of control. He’s a massive difference maker.Would never happen, but if they want a package with Hagen Smith and Meidroth and any minor leaguer not named Bonemer….go for it

Trading low is dumb on smith.Devil's advocate: this could be the highest value Smith has if it's proven later this year he can't go deep in games and is a RP, and/or can't throw strikes at the MLB level. If the right deal is there for a cost-controlled MLB level pitcher, I would definitely consider moving Smith if the player coming back is good enough.

If they were able to get back a top-20 prospect, that would be a huge win for them. I think Hagen Smith with another prospect would be interesting for us, though. Edited July 6Jul 6 by kwill
July 6Jul 6 I think there is a good chance the Padres are looking to trade Machado or Bogaerts with packaging Mason Miller with one of them to get them off their books. I don't think Boegarts that is really possible but maybe with Machado. To be clear, they would need to eat a good portion of that contract still. Edited July 6Jul 6 by kwill

They are highly variable and often some mature later than others. He's an asset and one I'd hate to give up on with zero service time to get a guy that even in a good year, is pitching 80 innings.

I think there is a valid argument that they would be better off trading him for a SP, but Miller is just so good and would secure the closer spot for years to come. I think Bonemer is a great talent but with Roch/Emerson coming, I don’t view him as untouchable.

I am really interested to see how the White Sox deploy both Smith and McDougal. Both could really help our bullpen problem. I know people often hesitate to give up on them as starters, but if they made the transition in September, that would be the better option for us at this point. I would say its there is a good chance both are ultimately destined for the pen.

Regardless, even if he moves back to 2B, Chase can still be an incredibly valuable 10th man. He’s the exact type of role player who teams like the Dodgers keep around and play everyday in event of injury. And all of that is ignoring how important he is in the clubhouse.

It sucks because of how many hitters available in that draft, but that’s in the past and now it’s all about maximizing how he can contribute. If his stuff is going to regress with a starter’s workload, there is still plenty of value to be had in the bullpen. The same applies for McDougal, but I’m more confident he can remain a SP. But perhaps for this season, you leverage him as a reliever and then work him back as a starter next season.

And I don’t think Chase will hold onto to 2B long-term…just not sure yet who will displace him. And for now, I think Peters may hold onto CF. I think our money goes toward extending Mune and adding pitching. If Peters falls off a cliff, I think you end up trading for a CF down the road, but with his defense I think he’s going to get an extended run here.

Who even better than what we have is available? For now Sam and Peters and Braden is a fine OF, flawed sure, but good enough and we need to get them all experience. As you said, Bonemer is our LF, and he'll hit 40 HR hopefully. Let Chase filter himself in or out for this season and than see whatsup in the offseason. If you have "too many good players" than sure, consider trades.Pitching wise yea, fucking add.
