It’s pretty funny in the seasons that the Sox are good and we get to this time of season and invariably GreenSox gets super freaked out about trading anyone and everyone and ultimately falls into “doing nothing is best” on repeat

That's because we ;make the trades yall want and we almost immediately get bad again. None help, and several has set us back years. They're just a losing proposition...not just for the Sox, for most teams.

And now I'm hearing Mason Miller. How has that worked out for San Diego? The price for career year Detmers is higher than Crochet was.
Urena. There's my suggestion.

We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trad

I'm pretty disinterested in Detmers for what his cost is likely to be. One season of 100+ IP with < 4 ERA in his career, so the upside is limited. And for folks who are worried about Martin's recen

All teams with bidets. Interesting...

The potential of bringing in Miller as a closer this year who is transitioned to the rotation for 27 - 30 is beyond intriguing.

If they are confident that they can turn Miller into a starter, that could be a bargain (especially if they pay proportionally less for Miller than San Diego).
But as a reliever only, no way. Hahn/Haber-era nonsense. Major misallocation of resources.

Why would a team like the Reds or A’s want Hays?

They wouldn't, but several contenders have a need for a RH bat. It would be nice to get him some major league swings and show it.
Of course, WE have a need for a RH bat too.

Yeah you gotta move one and keep the other. Probably deal Hays for whatever you can get and hope Pereira can stay healthy.

Musgrove Darvish Cronenworth Bogaerts Machado Pivetta...those are the deals killing the Padres right now.

Assuming the reports of us being in on Miller talks are true… what starting pitching does the Padres have that we could also potentially target?

Miller plus SP for a crazy haul 😬

MLB-TV keeps speculating he winds up with the Yankees.

Yea, the big media networks say the Yankees are going to get every prime deadline target, including Goodman.

Wonder why that is… 🤔

I also wonder if the team has been floating Thorpe in trades. My guess is there are multiple reasons we have been seeing an influx of White Sox articles written about him lately.

Hairball trade idea:

Sox Receive:

Mason Miller

Michael King

Padres Get:

Caleb Bonemer

Tanner McDougal

Drew Thrope

Kyle Lodise

David Sandlin

Who would say no?

Because the Yankees place a priority on winning regardless of cost?

I don't think you can trade recent draft selections until after a year but I may be wrong.

Someone may be able to clarify that for you.

Thorpe, not Thome.

Thorpe isn't a recent draft pick. He was a part of the Cease trade?

You're right. I misread it. Sorry and thanks!

Don't know how I missed that.

I've come around more to the idea of being more aggressive than not.

  • We know the AL is absolutely wide open this year

  • We've seen too many teams over the years believe their "window" is just starting to open, and it never does.

Well in 2016, Hahn thought we had a window, and made trades. There was no window, but his trades caused us to rebuild.
20/21 didn't last because the team had no depth and the farm was terrible once the team got good. I remember reading "The farm system is #29, but for good reason." Well the good teams don't lost their farms when the teams get good. Anderson and Eloy get sour (and the clowns in the FO don't bring back their best pitcher) and there's no depth to help.
We FINALLY have a good MLB team AND Farm. Nurture it, grow it, get it better; don't squander it.
The AL will be better next year. But so will the Sox.
