Shane Smith is the last thing a winning team needs in their rotation. Sox need another top of rotation starter in order to win, not a salvage project.

This is still an evolving and improving team filled with salvage prospects and projects. He can be good again. He just has to find what he had. He was trying to improve and it screwed him up. He can be good again .

If Smith comes back to form, he's a big improvement over Fedde any day.

Random thought: how long does Shane Smith have to stay down to get the extra year of control service time wise? May not even matter if he never regains his form but I am curious.

I wouldn't assume that's possible since he spent the entire 2025 season with us

But he’s not getting service time now so there should be a point where he doesn’t get credit for a full season this year and his free agency delays a year. They have to have a certain amount of service time accumulated to hit free agency (unless released/non-tendered of course)

Don't know why someone would want to write Shane Smith off. If the shoulder injury isn't serious, wouldn't surprise me at all if he comes back in 2025 form. The time away might even have helped him get out of whatever bad habits he was in. Of course, I won't say that I'll be totally shocked if he melts down upon return either. That's baseball for you.

Great support from ownership lol. Im pretty sure they had to beg uncle jerry to open his clutches of the coin purse to sign him. Tho now he gets to reap the money from them playing well and possible contention.

Main reason for the low payroll is the age of the players. A team of underperforming Benintendi’s would cost more. Did Jerry sign off on Mune? Why not?

They usually win despite him being owner. Rocking a solid $100M payroll (according to Spotrac). "Great support from ownership" LOL

Hilarious.

Of all of the people who you can cuck for, imagine picking Jerry Reinsdorf. Like he give two shits about any of us.

No one WANTS to write him off, but we all saw what he was when he started this year. He wouldn't be the first guy to have a fluke season.

The reason the payroll is low IS Jerry. Getz had to go to JR and beg him to sign Mune, and that is the only thing currently standing between them and the absolute lowest payroll in MLB.

He's probably somewhere in between last year and what he was to start this year. On this staff that's mildly useful. I'd rather seem Smith than Fedde personally.

Even a back of the rotation guy has plenty of value. If that's who he is, he can still be useful. But keep in mind the entire reason he was available to the White Sox is because he had thrown a total of 157 innings over three injury plagued seasons. There is also a chance an injury riddled pitcher is who he is, because that is who he was before last year.

He signed off after being begged to. Remember they had to trade robert and all his contract in order to add more players? Do we not realize jerry is cheap and only cares for the carrot to bring fans in for second places finishes? His words

agree with all that. we are still dumpster diving as we should be, maybe we'll get lucky again.

Hagen has a left shoulder impingement and is shut down for a month or so.

Sox might need to rethink their pitching development staff, how does every single top pitching prospect in your system get hurt all around the same time

Beg is a loaded word indicating you were there. You weren’t.

Didn't Getz or Brooks come out and say this LOL

They said beg? Owner signs off on big signings. Boo hoo.

They had to convince their boss why signing him (to a 2 year $34M deal mind you) made sense. This isn't like a $200M deal.

Getz literally bragged about it.

Very good question.

The main reason for the low payroll is the age of the players on the roster due to Jerry’s aversion to spending money in free agency and a continuous strategy of rebuilding.

Mune was $34 million plus a $6.5 million posting fee. That’s chump change in today’s free agency.

Schultz on a pitch count, 2-3 innings.

Teel playing today and a day game tomorrow, rest day Thursday, then playing Friday and Saturday. Sounds like 5-6 innings behind the plate for tonight.
