He has a career .202/.256/.573 slash line and has struck out in 30% of his plate appearances away from Coors.

At least he's much younger than Brazoban lol?

Chris Getz is bad at this. People mistaken the ability to hire smart people for draft purposes with being good as the sox GM right now. This guy has gotten taken to the woodshed in almost every deal

Highly suggest people watch this. Look at the defense. Rockies announcer at one point described him as, “the best centerfielder in Rockies history” after he made an amazing catch.

If the brain trust ISNT able to turn him around at the dish - this is a platoon guy with outstanding defense, a laser arm, and speed that guys us a second option off the bench when pinch running may help us in close one run games.

Regarding his bat - he isn’t a Coors only power threat. If we can get him right, he can hit it out in any park.

The more I look into this move, the more I get it.

Let me speak your language here.

Poop, even if it is controlable, is still poop.

There's no way they play this guy ahead of Pereira!

Haha, I had to do a double take on that Brazoban one when I saw he had a bunch of years of control.

The sad thing is that this new poop is older (28) than the outfielders already on the roster (Peters and Pereira) that are arguably better.

I'm mostly fine with it. Adams probably a bullpen guy (and it ain't gonna get better for him in Coors), and the other guy is whatever. Buying upside with Doyle makes sense if you think you can fix his struggles and that the injuries this year caused him to hit so poorly.

Center field looks like a platoon now.

At least this team has a fine track record of rehabilitating players with groin and oblique injuries, and getting said players back up to their full potential

(Yes, different regime, but I still don’t trust those injuries)

Therein lies the problem.

Fedde on paper doesn't look all that different from Castillo, either.

Only Brazoban an upgrade on Dominguez numbers...

Feels like a lot of these guys like McGuffey or other twitter accounts with sources shill for the team/Getz during the Getz era.

Yep.

The whiniest among us will make up hypothetical bullshit to excuse an awful trade by Getz. You know, a trade that he actually made in real life and not in your fantasy land.

It's strange that people come on here and complain about complainers as if they're any better. It's OK if people don't like the trade. I don't like it. We also come to a message board to discuss it. What a concept huh.

Look, I don't even mind that people who have opinions, it is the ones whose opinions changed based on if the player is inside, or outside, of this organization. Adams didn't go from being a potential replacement in the rotation to expendable, just because the payee of his check changed. He was always a guy coming off of TJS who probably wasn't going to be any help this season.

more then half of his career home runs have come outside of coors

Huh? He has 20 homers on the road and 29 at Coors.

A few notes about home and road splits for Colorado players...

Coors is not a high home run field. It's huge. It's a high offense field because the ball still flies far and there's a lot of space, plus — in high elevation with dry air, pitches don't move as much.

There's a well-documented road effect for Colorado hitters, such that they typically hit a lot worse on the road than you would expect based on their performance at home. Again, importantly, this is not "they are overrated because of high elevation" because this effect goes away as soon as the Colorado players sign/trade with a new team. Leading theory is that it messes up their eye to play half of their games in Coors where the pitches don't move very much. This also means "park-adjusted" statistics underrate Colorado hitters because it's harder for a Colorado hitter to hit at low elevation than it is for a low elevation hitter to hit at Coors.

Finally, most players play better at home (not by a lot, of course).

Ever since the humodor the ball doesn't fly like it used to, but you are right that the dimenions there are massive, which makes for a ton of doubles and especially triples.

Oh and just to be clear, this is not intended to be an argument that there's a .300 hitter hiding inside of Brenton Doyle. Just setting expectations that it probably doesn't mean that he's going to get even worse.

Spot on. McGuffey is wondering why people are "prospect hugging" and complaining about the trade.

Maybe, but he's got a point (although it begs the question of whether not protecting him was the right move.). and as another x-blogger pointed out, 94 mph isn't that great and the Sox really lack high-end pitching prospects (lack ofquality international signings and draft?)

I would assume Hays comes up and he is there if Hays or Grichuk get hurt or just suck

Yah, forgot about Hays for a sec. Figured he'd be traded for a bag of balls today. Guess we'll be seeing him back soon instead.

What do you bet our man Doyle ends up hitting like Vargas while playing gold glove defense? The naysayers have been proven demonstrably wrong time and time again, I think the probability that it happens one more time is pretty high.

Somebody should have told Getz that when he made the Cease trade.
