5 hours ago5 hr Lets keep in mind this guy has only played for the Rockies, a terrible organization. This will be the first time he has ever been in a playoff race. That alone could bump up his performance. I love the fact he is a great defensive outfielder.

Doesn't offer enough as a hitter to PH late in games. That said, a Peters-Doyle-Montgomery outfield in 9th innings with a lead is pretty dynamiteColson,Acuna,Miedroth and Vargas around the horn looks good too. With Taylor closing.......Lock it down in the 9th.

Doyle is already 28, the same age as Nolan Jones. If he was a bit younger, fine, perhaps he’s worth the shot. Not a fan of acquiring guys that should be in their prime and are coming off their worst years ever. Sadly, Jones’ one good year with the Rockies was much better offensively than Doyle’s. He had the hardest throw in the stats cast era and is flat out amazing. The hitting can use some work (problems due to the prior rockies regime, IMO).His WAR from last year is a tale of two players. His wife had a miscarriage and he didn't recover from that prior to the all star break. He was negative WAR before the all star break then crushed it in the second half of the season to finish at above average WAR. Details below:https://www.purplerow.com/colorado-rockies-roster/77181/colorado-rockies-player-review-brenton-doyle-overcame-a-miserable-first-half-to-finish-with-a-positive-impactI agree that this seems to be a win win on paper. You'll get a center fielder who is basically a walking defensive highlights reel. If you can solve the offense (probably on the off season), you've probably robbed us blind. For what it's worth, the Rockies need pitchers for next year and a 4/5, starter who's control based with lots of pitches seems to be our go to.All the best to doyle and I hope he crushes it for the white Sox!”I’m more hopeful than the “probably in the off season” part.Since September first of last year (2025) Brenton Doyle is slashing 198/248/274 with a xwOBA of 235 with a -1.2 fWAR. That ranks him 76th of 77 players with 50+ PA's as an OF'er in wRC+ and it ranks him dead last in fWAR. The absolutely crazy thing is he's slashed that while carrying a .289 BABIP. In that period, he ranks 512 out of 518 players in fWAR, tied with Edgar Quero who the Sox just sent down because he's been so bad. Not sure I'm seeing that "crushing it" part. 2 hours ago2 hr Two years ago, this trade would have set pulses racing, as Doyle won his second Gold Glove in two MLB seasons but more significantly added some pop to his game: 23 homers, 72 RBIs and a 3.9 WAR that seemed to predict multi-tool minor stardom ahead. But in the two years since, the center fielder has badly regressed. His 2025 was a stumble to a 0.2 WAR that apparently affected his defense as well, and this season Doyle battled oblique and groin injuries that saw him sent to Triple-A for a rehab assignment before his call-up just two games ago.Sam Bradfield over at our sister site Purple Row offered her insight on the trade, promising that "when [Doyle] is on, he's on" and that the speedster ran into both bad injury luck and struggles with altitude. He'll face no such problems with the latter in the flatlander climes of Chicago, so perhaps the White Sox coaching staff can coax back more of the speed-D-pop excellence we saw from Doyle two seasons ago.yahoo.com/sportsCan they actually find two Tristan Peters/es in a single season...? They are similar things Vargas dealt with ( raising his hands, lift and pull, better swing decisions )…There’s reasons for confidence because he showed capable of doing that in 2024.I think it’s completely legitimate that a personal tragedy and pressing last year explains initial struggles… and his injuries this year are behind him. He’s the exact profile of player that should benefit from Fuller and his gold glove defense from 23 to 25 was the best in baseball by some metrics. If you can’t see the reasons for optimism and understand why they took this risk and only want to focus on what he did wrong for a period of time, then you must have had a hard on for Mason Adams that’s blinding you or something. 😆It’s not a sure thing slam dunk but there are many reasons that you should understand what they’re going for here.

Our bench now has two incredibly weak RH hitters in Doyle & Acuna plus a question mark in Grichuk. Despite certain flaws, Pereira was very useful against LHP. We could find ourselves highly exposed against lefties down the stretch and into the playoffs now.

Vargas always had great strike zone command and an elite approach. Doyle has bad strike zone command and a poor approach. The White Sox acquired one of the worst players in baseball over the last 1 1/2 years but you've painted this giant rose. Very fascinating. Edited 1 hour ago1 hr by Look at Ray Ray Run

I take myself too seriously but you're running around calling me an idiot because I post facts (worst outfielder in baseball since September 1st) about a players performance. I just find it hilarious that Soxtalk couldn't wait to demote and move on from Edgar Quero because he was "so bad" yet he has the same fWAR as Brenton Doyle since September 1st of last year and Quero has played more games, so Doyle has been even worse.

I don't know how catching defense affects fWAR, but I've always found that fWAR and bWAR were pretty useless when including catching defense. Does Baseball Prospectus still have the best catcher ranking system?

I actually chose the date because he matched Quero over that same time frame so it seemed more relatable. Lazy stats work from me in this one where I told the story before I validated the data.
