I think they're a glorified .500 team that has played a bit over their heads. They're young, so they're going to be streaky. They're also punting one offensive position (catcher), while weathering serious slumps in about 3-4 others.

If any Sox employees troll these forums, you need to check on what the changed ball is doing for movement high in the zone against the heart of the order. It’s going past a small sample size on the pop up rise and power drop.

Even more prominently, since June 1st of LAST season, Hoskins has a 57 wRC+ against LHP. Why has Hoskins forgotten how to hit southpaws on a team that needs him to be able to be the career 130 wRC+ against them he has traditionally been like no other? I don't know. Because the baseball gods hate us, probably. It's likely one of two options: 1. small sample size and he'll eventually correct things, or 2. the canary in the coal mine that he is washed overall."

They've also only had 12 games at home since the end of June before this series. They've faced a bunch of good teams over that span as well. They have some guys slumping but have basically been treading water. I'd say that's impressive in its own right.
