Yesterday I wasn't sure about Chase if he was injured and also a rumor about Colson's back. Nobody gave Gonzales a chance when he was called up but he took advantage of the call up.

I brought up McGonigle because of both being drafted out of HS and the total of ab's in the minors.

Bonemer does k but he also has 66 walks, 251/383/556 OPS .939

Bonemer has improved his numbers since moving to AA. Absolute beast. SO rate was 29.1% in A+, 24.7% in AA. That's the biggest area he needed to improve. Rocking a cool 145 wRC+ in AA.

Is Ron Kittle the last Sox prospect to hit 40 HRs in one minor league season?

Robert hit 32 in 2019. I can't recall anybody else coming close. Ron Kittle hit 50 in AAA in 1982 and 40 HR in AA in 1981.

3 more HRs for Bonemer, would surpass Robert for maybe the most since Kittle 44 years ago?

Kittle hurt his back with the Dodgers as a youngster out of HS and was released. He went back to Gary, healed up, and was working in the mills. I believe he was spotted by a Sox exec playing local baseball and was signed.

Have you at least promote him to Charlotte. Dude is forcing the issue.

From my interview with Ron:

"On July 4 of that year (1976) I was home watching John Candelaria no-hit the Dodgers on TV when some Dodger scouts showed up. I signed with them for five thousand dollars and went to Clinton, Iowa to play. In my first game, in my first at bat, I doubled. Mike Scioscia followed me with a single and as I was sliding home the catcher fell on me. It turned out that his fall broke my neck but I didn’t know it at the time. I was partially paralyzed right after it, I couldn’t lift my arm or anything but I thought it was like a stinger that you get playing football. I sat out for a while and tried to come back but just wasn’t feeling right."

"The Dodgers asked if I’d like to go to their team in Canada in the Pioneer League and keep playing. I was trying to build myself back up, remember I still didn’t know how bad I was hurt, and I wanted to play, so I went. After another bad year where I just hurt all the time, the Dodgers released me. I wound up going to some specialists in Chicago and they found that I had three crushed vertebrae and a cracked spinal cord. They were amazed that I even tried to play.”

I showed them I could catch and threw one ball from right center field into the stands so they saw I could throw. Then I grabbed a Wayne Nordhagen bat and stepped in to hit. Bruce Dal Canton was pitching. I hadn’t even swung a bat for a few weeks and I completely missed the first swing. Ron Blomberg was watching me and he said “take your time son and relax.” I wound up hitting 12 balls for home runs including one that went out of the stadium through those open arch windows that they had in the lower deck. The last ball I hit was on the roof. By the time I was finished guys from both teams were lined up watching. I was told that Bill Veeck said that I wasn’t to be allowed to leave until I was signed."

I met him once at batting cages in Bartlett around 2008, he was showing off his bat benches(which were very cool and I think he has put a few of them around the park) and when he shook my hand, all I could think was this man has the biggest strongest hands I have ever shook before lol. I became facebook friends with him and he always wishes me happy birthday every year lol

He was a big strapping dude and had 7 roof shots at Old Comiskey, that is big time power.

Kind of curious what the plan is for Bonemer. Kid has a 149 wRC+ in just shy of 200 PAs at AA. Obviously we should not call him up to the majors this year, but how much more time does he need in AA? Do they consider giving him a taste of AAA before year end? And do they consider part of the early season major league mix next year? He’s starting to force the issue on that last point, which could require us to make some trades to open up a starting for him.

I see the Sox as the old Cleveland Indians of the 90's, bringing up studs that can rake.

It’s too bad they haven’t given him LF reps yet. He’d be a great fit in the LHP lineup down the stretch.

Not to be so arrogant as to think anyone knows or cares what I've said before about Bonemer, but after diving a little deeper I'm coming around on him a bit. I still really don't like how he looks but I know better than to place too much weight on that. Some of the AA data is sketchy but my read on things is he's got more hit tool than the highish K rate would let on. And better discipline than you might think. He has a good contact rate with 2 strikes and isn't one of those fake-patience guys who just takes everything until two strikes in hopes of getting a walk from a pitcher who stinks. He does have some issues with swing decisions but not at a profound level. As I would have expected from how stiff he looks at the plate, he does not do a good job of making contact on pitches outside the zone at all. That's why he strikes out a lot, paired with his average-for-level chase rate. In-zone contact is not so bad and with two strikes, he rarely gets beaten in the zone which is pretty interesting. As long as better pitching doesn't expose a greater tendency to chase, he doesn't look like a sure thing to have his K rate explode at higher levels. I'm still pretty skeptical about his defensive home but it's just hard to know about that stuff from afar so I don't weight it too heavily.

Didn't he also post some of the fastest times to first base/sprint times in one of those recent All Star games?

IIRC, it was more "surprisingly fast" moreso than "elite speed."
