Is It Time To Call Up Bonemer?

Agree that LF would be a good spot for him, but what about Sam?

I suppose you could do:

Mune DH

Vargas 1B

Chase SS

Colson 3B

Sam 2B

Bonemer LF

But that's a lot of movement.

Meidroth is arguably the best 2nd baseman in the AL, an argument with a lot of strong evidence supporting it . (No one else on the Sox roster you can really say that about.)

Yet people on this forum continually dismiss him and want to replace him. I don’t get it.

Not happening. Sounds fun but don't see where he plays everyday. Also, rushing him to the majors in a season he started in A+ in the middle of a playoff race sounds like a great way to f*** up his dev

I met him once at batting cages in Bartlett around 2008, he was showing off his bat benches(which were very cool and I think he has put a few of them around the park) and when he shook my hand, all I

Colson's splits vs RHP & LHP are very interesting.

Interesting indeed. Never would have guessed Colson has reverse splits.

Another point, that we probably don’t want to discuss, but the odds are that Mune won’t be here after next year.

Hate to be pessimistic, but I think the odds are 50/ 50 Mune is not here next year. (Sox won’t be able to sign him and therefore trade him in offseason.)

So a real possibility that Vargas will soon be at 1st base, which opens up a spot in the infield. But I think that goes to Roch. So, still not sure where Bonemer can play, except LF.

It’s kind of nice to imagine a Sox team with so much talent that they can’t find a spot for Antonacci, and I love Antonacci.

I think it’s more likely than not the Sox resign Mune. If he weren’t a 1B then I’d agree with you, but I think given our current payroll flexibility and the fact that Ishbia is eventually buying the team helps our cause.

It's weird. It feels like Jerry's operating the team as if he isn't selling it to Ishbia (even though we know he is). We've seen reports that he's trying to stifle Ishbia's plans for the new stadium at Amtrak. He still has hopes that he can build a stadium on the other side of the river next to the future Fire stadium.

I'm not sure he'll be operating with the mindset of "this will be Ishbia's problem in the future". I also think he'll still be a cheap ass who sticks to his guns about not signing pitchers to big contracts, which we desperately need.

Not this year

A waste of talent in left. No way

Do you think Antonacci has been a waste in left field? You gotta find a place for a dude like this to play.

The infield is pretty much cemented for the near future. If they don't try him in the OF, then they have to trade an infielder or trade Bonemer. I really don't want to trade Bonemer. I think he could put up 40 HRs as an infielder. That's nasty. If they do move him, we're getting a stud pitching prospect back.

I also don't hate the idea of trading Colson if you can get a great return. It's a really ballsy move. Somebody has to get moved in the infield. Colson has some injury concerns and contact/consistency concerns. Roch will be our SS when he's ready.

I agree with you on Chase as the Sox second baseman.

Does Braden stay a switch hitter or just bats L?

Does Sam get platooned in Left and only starts against RHP?

I didn't suggest replacing him. I said he could play SS in this scenario and I acknowledged that this would probably be too much movement for our defenders.

Someone has to be traded

Bonemer probably comes up when rosters expand

Teams can only expand the roster to 28, the rules are different now.

How likely is a Mune move to near full time DH by next season? That would help with the logjam to some extent.

Move Vargas to 1B and allows Colson to stay at SS (until Roch) while Bonemer plays 3B.

You could also have a sort of rotation DH in this scenario between Vargas, Mune, and Colson. With Mune DH 60% of the time, Vargas 30%, and Colson 10%. The flexibility of Meidroth to play SS and 2B, Sam to play 2B and LF allows you to keep the best hitters in the lineup while giving guys regular rest and the "Big 3" semi-rest days as DH.

Obviously with 1 more year on Beni's deal you have to cut bait via release or trade.

Not sure moving Mune to DH makes him likelier to sign an extension...need to have that conversation.

And whether Colson even remains your starting SS...

No point to do that unless he's playing in nearly every game.

I don't see any place for him on this team and having him as a PH or something doesn't make sense imo. No reason to jerk the kid around.

I know it doesn’t make sense but I still feel like it’s a good possibility because he is just raking right now. Who knows maybe he pushes Colson and the entire lineup responds

Bro you're not throwing a 20 year old into a pennant race at SS when he's probably ticketed for 2B or LF at the MLB level. That's just nonsense. You'd be setting him and the pitching up for failure.

Nobody is pushing colson harder than himself at this point, in the dog days of his first full (very productive) season. Colson has been ELITE with his glove the last month. He's back up to 9.1 runs above avg after slipping to around 6 at the ASB.

Yea, Getz should have traded Bonemer at the trade deadline for a starter instead of doing almost nothing.

I’ll play. Roch did not look like he was going to be up in ‘27. But Bonemer does look like he will, if he has a spot on the infield. Someone is getting traded.

Oh agree 100%. But that's at best 9 months away. We can worry about that when it happens. Right now we have our core mix and Bonemer can go relax after his AA season is over and work on his defense as all the cool kids now say "in the dirt".

I doubt he feels jerked around, he'd probably like the pay bump and amenities. I think it would be pointless bordering on absurd to call him up though.

The odd man out in the infield is Mune or he just moves to DH full-time. Which would be great. Beni is still the odd man out and might finally be tradable.
