They needed an extra glove for the outfield. Sam is a gamer, love the guy, but I don't want to see him in LF late innings .

I think that when Davis Martin hit a batter and the benches cleared, Getz saw a clear need for a bad-ass to lead the charge onto the field to mix it up.

I don’t get picking up Pham, at one time he was pretty decent and I’ve never seen a player as intense as him but this is a complete waste. Bringing Robert back made more sense than this move.

That's my thought. They're weak against LHPs, Orioles had priority on Robert, picked up anyone who swung a bat. Looks like he was doing okay in Lehigh Valley. We could either have a complete platoon OF, or Pham could be gone by Friday.

Yeah I think Pham will DH against lefties (not sure how his defense is anymore at this age) and Grichuk gives Antonacci or Montgomery a day off

From some of the comments at Sox Machine they believe Pham is not for long and when Teel comes up he will be launched. Also the O's were ahead of the Sox and they nabbed Robert before the Sox could. Supposedly the Sox had interest in him.

Kinda makes me wonder why they couldn't come to a deal at the beginning of August with the Mets eating some money but I guess Robert had just come off the IL not too long before that so I guess it makes sense they didn't. Obviously, not saying give up something for him but like cash considerations so the Mets could at least dump some money.

Through 8/19, he was on an 11-18 run for the AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, but just yesterday, he went 0-4. He's pretty much been starting for them since July 2nd.

Looking at his game log, he had about 18 decent games in August. His injury history just kept everyone away, I can't blame them.

How can anyone dislike Vasil? Even Venable let him announce one of the ASG selections because of how valuable he’s been. I think he’s had a gigantic influence on the clubhouse revival.

This is all hindsight, but we really shouldn't have even bothered trading him. The money his trade freed up was used on Dominguez and Hays. We got negative value out of both. Dumping Dominguez even got us more salary to carry over for next year in Castillo. Just a series of bad decisions from Getz stemming from this trade.
