The metrics that I assume inform the strategy usually say trust the league's splits over the batter's splits. Admittedly it's trickier for switch hitters though. I also think Herrin has such an insane release that it would nudge you towards not wanting someone to stand in the left-handed batter's box against him if you can possibly avoid it.
