Expect the unexpected is all I'll say. You just don't know how into it Boston is going to be given they can't change their playoff positioning.

If the Sox go 5-1 this week they probably win the division. So go do that.

If the sox take care of business they will have every chance to win the division as Cleveland is slated to face .......

Important to remember is that we own the tiebreaker with Cleveland.

Anything that happens during 'garbage time' of the season is still going to be a factor during contract negotiations. The arbiter doesn't care if you play for a great team or not, they look at your statistics. There's a lot for the individual to play for. Furthermore, you don't get to this highest level of competition by giving up. They're all competitors. There might even be a little bit of pride in playing spoiler.

I mean, I'd rather play the Rockies than the Red Sox, but there's so much randomness in this sport that a terrible team can sweep a really good one. That's why we play 162 games and it really seems to me that our Sox are regressing toward -- what many of us predicted to begin the season -- being a .500 team. If I was an unbiased gambler, I'd pick the Guardians to win the division regardless of the strength of schedule.

The bad team. The team already clinched is more talented and it’s not like roster expansion is going to put every single good player on the bench like it used to.

You also don't want to just quit playing a week before the playoffs and lose any momentum you might get going into the wild card series. There are a ton of times where the team playing the best at the end of the season that makes a long run, not the overall better team the whole year

I agree. The guys who are on the field are still trying but the team also may decide to skip or rest your best SP to have them pitch the first/second game of the first playoff series.
