It's 2 because the Astros also have the tiebreaker over the Rangers. So if they tie, the Rangers would be kicked to the wild card.

Both Texas and Houston would have to finish ahead of us for us to miss the playoffs. So it’s 2 right now.

Okay correcting myself here. I believe the overall magic number is 3. Sox win is worth 2 however. White Sox could lose out. 81-81. Rangers go 5-0 or 4-1, win the division outright. Astros go 3-2, finish 81-81 and win the wild card. So 2 doesnt officially get you there.

A Sox win and Rangers loss means:

Sox win 82 minimum and Rangers 82 maximum…Sox hold tiebreaker.

The magic number is 2

It would take Sox 1-4 finish and 5-0 Rangers run

Sox at 82-80

Rangers at 83-79
