It's still technically 3. There is one specific scenario where it is three, but I laid that out above. Yes, a sox win alone would lower the number by 2. That's the fun with tiebreakers. But if the Sox dont win again, the tiebreaker isnt guaranteed.

The Magic number goes down with a Sox win or the the other team’s loss. It’s 2.

Astros go 3-2

Thats two losses from the Astros. As you said, magic number goes down with opponent losses. With a magic number of two, that should get you in right? The standings would be

Texas 82-80

Astros 81-81

White Sox 81-81

Yes, it’s three against the Astros. I’m saying it’s two against the Rangers. Under your scenario, we don’t get the two. I’m saying this- a Sox win and Rangers loss tomorrow gets the Sox in the postseason.

In your scenarios you have to look at the AL West results and Hoston wins that and we win tiebreaker with Rangers for WC.

What was a rout turned into a too close for comfort game, anytime you win a game it’s great but this one with Castillo out there in the 9th sort of left a bad taste in my mouth.

Going forward, one more win in KC will be fine and then come home and sweep the Rockies. The BoSox will win a game in their series with the Guards and then KC takes one from Cleveland and there’s a tie for the Division but we win with the tiebreaker.

Couldn’t agree more. It was one of those wins that makes you think the postseason might get ugly. But at least it’d still be the postseason.

I would honestly give Castillo a phantom DL stint and bring up McDougal again at this point. Castillo is straight gasoline, maybe McDougal can figure throwing consistent strike out and give you a boost. The both of them would be the last guy out of the pen for me, with Richard’s being 1a
