I don't mind Chase (and others) swinging from their heels up in the count and trying to do damage. I DO mind the lack of baseball awareness he shows sometimes. Up 3-1 with the basses loaded, the pitcher is in trouble there, not you. Look for a pitch in a zone you can drive and launch it. If it's not in that small location window, take it! It's then 3-2 and the pitcher is still in trouble. If Chase was "zone hitting", he would have never swung at ball 4.

I don't have an issue with Montgomery's strike outs. Just want him to take more walks. Have said it before and I'll say it again, but if he turns into Adam Dunn 2.0, I'll be very happy. Adam Dunn would routinely hit triple digits in both walks and Ks.

Btw, if he's healthy enough, and apparently the Sox pulled Fedde because the knee was causing him a fair amount of discomfort, I have no issue with him starting game one of the wild card series.

It appears the Sox pitching staff as a whole is about as healthy as they were heading into the playoffs in 2000 and of course everyone knows the situation in 2020.

Outside of Fedde, what injuries do we have? They've been managing Martin's calf situation all year. They didn't push it because of the field being such a mess with the weather. Burke has refound his form as well.

2000 team had a ton of young pitchers go down to injury in that two year cycle

think it was something like 12 major injuries

only Buehrle and Garland survived

Wells and Fogg with Pitt

Baldwin and Parque and Wright all fell apart eventually Snyder etc.

Cal Eldred hurt as well

Yeah this is nowhere near that. Buehrle only got his start becuase of those injuries. Fedde was injured on a hard hit comebacker that came off his knee. Bad luck.

It would have made a bit more sense if they won this game. But you're still chasing Cleveland for the division and you just made it so Burke can't start game 1 in the Wild Card series unless you skip him entirely against Colorado.

Chase talent level does not allow better sustained performance and the guy in RF is in over his head why the rush. They need to clear out the playoff roster. Sox and Natalie need to forget about first place. Just be glad you got invited to the party.

Next time in a similar situation I would give him the take sign on 3-1 until he shows better discipline,and earns the right to swing.
