2027 Rotation

Featured Replies

There will be a fuckton of SP available this offseason, which made the Castillo trade even dumber than it was on paper. Regardless, you have to add two guys who can give you quality innings. This is what I’d like to see happen with the pitching staff to start the season:

Rotation:

  1. Burke

  2. <Free Agent>

  3. <Free Agent>

  4. D. Martin

  5. L. Castillo

Bullpen:

  • CL: G. Taylor

  • SU: H. Smith*

  • SU: J. Hicks

  • MR: <S. Newcomb*>

  • MR: H. Brazoban

  • MR: B. Hudson*

  • LR: D. Sandlin

  • LR: A. Kay*

AAA Rotation:

  1. N. Schultz*

  2. D. Thorpe

  3. T. McDougal

  4. S. Smith

  5. K. Bush*

  6. M. Vasil

Castillo gets an incredibly short leash and is replaced by Schultz, Sandlin, or Thorpe if he’s still the 2026 guy. Martin gets a longer leash, but has to show signs that is was the calf injury impacting his performance down the stretch or he eventually gets moved to the bullpen. Hagen & Taylor remain key bullpen pieces alongside Hicks and a resigned Newcomb. Kay moves to a swingman role. AAA rotation serves as depth to both major league rotation & bullpen.

Give me this and we are cooking. Also, cue the CBA fear mongers who assume we will spend zero money this coming offseason and will rock a $100M payroll.

Getz will still be hyping Castillo as being in the best shape of his lifetime coming into ST.

I am going to be honest here, 2005 to 2006 is in the back of my head, where we rode our top dogs hard, and then they fell off the next year for the most part. If it were me, I am 100% looking for big

Why the hell are we having conversations about getting rid of grant taylor when he literally just had one of the best relief performances in postseason history.

That’s not good though if they want to make these guys starters on a full time basis next year

There's no definitive medical reason that limits innings. Prep them all to be starters and whoever is good will stay a starter until they're no longer good. Whoever isn't goes in the bullpen.

Big innings jumps is likely what wiped out Shane Smith, fwiw.

Has gone through so many injuries and career set backs from his college days.

Didn’t Shane Smith go rogue and work with a Driveline group last offseason and change up his mechanics?

Have you not seen how incredibly careful the Sox are with Schultz and Hagen?

They had Schultz starting until he showed he wasn't ready yet. Smith had too many command issues to trust going for longer than a couple innings. They'll 100% have both prepped to be starters next year unless they don't think they can do it.

Youre right. And I think that did Schultz a disservice. All of those short starts in the minors were to protect him and handle innings but when he got up to the bigs and struggled after a few innings everyone wondered why.

I thought in order for them to be a "surprise" team in 2026 one of either Scultz or Smith would have to have a breakout year as a starter. That didnt happen but nothing says it won't next year.

I thought it was the Sox who wanted to reshape a pitch to keep hitters off of a different pitch, at least that's what I remember

What free agent pitcher would want to come to a team like the white sox who decide who’s opening, who’s starting, and who’s relieving by throwing a dart against the wall. Why come to the Sox when you can go somewhere else and continue to be a starter as opposed to an early inning beginning reliever?

People, for some reason, think what the Sox did towards the end of the year was this brand new strategy they will do forever instead of something they had to do because of current personal.

There is plenty to rip Venable for, but dude was given zero SP and had to be creative down the stretch and in the playoffs. Free agent SPs should be eager for the opportunity to join a playoff team in one of the worst divisions in baseball who are desperate for SP.

Amazing that in our elimination game the Sox pitching was great. That was a hall of fame home run Ramirez hit....cannot blame Burke at all for that one.
