What are Card fans saying about this? This is soooo much worse than the AJ dropped 3rd strike, IMO, but we heard about that until...well...I still hear about it.

A little late, but Cards fans are not keeping quiet about this. I live in St. Louis and it's all I've heard about the past 2 days. A local radio guy had Steve Palermo(major league supervisor of umpires) on his show and pretty much grilled him to the extent of calling him a liar about the whole situation.

Cool, thanks for that info.

I don't know man, I have a feeling the NL will have a Series title this year. Silly Tigers, nice time to "show up".

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 10:41 PM)
The Cardinals have already surpassed all of the expectations I had for them in this series. I can't believe they've won 2 games.

like I said, this should be a good, close series. the Cardinals stink, and the Tigers stunk in the 2nd half (36-38 after the All-Star break!). possibly the worst World Series of all-time in terms of talent, but it should be somewhat riveting baseball.

So much for the NL being a complete joke. Cards looking solid so far.

like I just said, the Tigers aren't that good. 36-38 after the All-Star break? c'mon, we blew it, plain and simple. this could've been another year for the Sox.

Bonderman will shut down the Cards tonight or Suppan will get knocked around, then Verlander will rebound like he always does after getting rocked and Rogers will clinch game 6.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 08:38 AM)
There is a 60% chance of rain in St. Louis today and a 90% chance tonight and tomorrow. I think that would benefit Detroit.

I understand how it could shuffle the pitching lineups and that might help Detroit, but one of the Tigers' problems simply has to be rust. Zumaya walking people last night, Verlander being hit hard, their key bats going 0-for...more rest doesn't help Detroit with those things.

And, if there were to be 2 rainouts in a row...Then Carpenter is up on normal rest in game 6 instead of game 7.

this quote regarding the tigers is awsome:

" They are playing with all the passion of a recently clubbed trout, and though it may be too early to declare them toast, the way Detroit is playing now, you might want to break out the butter and jam."

A trout and jam sandwich on buttered toast; that's the fat lady's favorite!

I think the rain out, if it happens, will benefit the Tigers. I think Bonderman will lose to Suppan, which leaves them down 3-1. They'll play game 5 on Friday and Leyland would probably skip Zoolander and let Rogers pitch on normal rest, especially facing elimination. Then he's got Verlander added rest and pitching at home if they get that far.

Still...it's pretty hard to imagine the Cards winning this thing in five. I think they'll win it in 7, though. And I was predicting a Detroit sweep.

Here's a song that a Cardinal fan friend of mine wrote to The Gambler theme:

On a cold autumn evenin' in a game bound for glory,

I met up with the cheater; he was all hopped up on speed.

So we took turns a wiping pine tar on our pitching hands

till Van Slyke made him wash up, and he began to speak.

He said, son, I've made a life out of lying to peoples faces,

And knowin' what the Cardinals were by the mascara on Edmond's eyes.

So if you don't mind my sayin', "That is my b**** right there!!"

For a taste of your manhood I'll give you some advice.

So I handed him my nail file and he smiled just like Phil Niekro.

Then I rubbed the tip of his cap and found some vasoline.

And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.

Said, if you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to cheat like me.

You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em,

Know when to walk away and know when to run.

You never count your pitches when you're sittin in the dugout.

There'll be time enough for countin when the cheatin's done.

Now every cheater knows that the secret to his slider

Is knowin' what to throw away and knowing what to keep.

cause every hand is sticky and every game is a winner,

And the best that you can hope is that Tony wont call you a cheat.

So when he'd finished speakin', he turned back towards the dugout,

Crushed out his rosin bag and faded off to wash his hands.

And somewhere in the darkness the cheater, he broke even.

But in his final words I found an asshole I could curse.

You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em,

Know when to walk away and know when to run.

You never count your pitches when you're sittin in the dugout.

There'll be time enough for countin' when the cheatin's done........

I was thinking to myself before this series began what the over-under bet should be for number of games the Cardinals would win. I figured the right over-under number would have been 1.5. And I think you'd find a good balance there. Nobody gave the Cards a chance.

Quite frankly, I'm amazed at how it's gone thus far.

This has got to be some kinda record for most games pushed back because of rain for one post-season.

Happy it didn't happen to us, it would have made me go nuts.
