The big Mack attack could be back? I can see it now...we can't afford Andruw, Jones, or ARow...but we've got Rob back to patrol CF in 2008! Love his attitude, he's a local boy, what's not to like??? Oh, he can't field? But what an attitude!!!!

He can field just fine, just not in CF. He's an excellent corner OF/2B/3B but he'll give you nothing in center. Sadly a decision was made in 2006 to leave him out there despite his defensive limitations and that's kind of ruined his reputation in this city.

He is a fantastic bench player.

This seemed interesting. KW was asked if he had made a decision as to what to do about Uribe, and the answer was an emphatic "yes."

Since he didn't then announce that his option was being picked up, I'd take this as a strong sign that he's got an SS trade in mind, maybe one being worked on right now.

Grinderific.

Hoyt Wilhelm reference thrown out in the Vikings game.

So, who does everyone want at SS in 2008?

Hu please.

Just so Hawk can say Hu's on first. But really I think he is going to be a special player but one who may cost too much for the Sox to acquire.

I think the bigger issue with a guy like Hu is that its probably going to take the Dodgers a long time to sort out their season, because it's going to be weeks at least before the ARod derby ends, and they won't want to move any of Hu, Furcal, or Laroche, unless it's a really good deal for them, until they know they're out of that race. And I really doubt KW is in a patient mood this offseason.

Good point, I am more of a supporter of going young, so I would love an Aybar, Hu, Tulowitzki (I know I know, a complete dream now) as I think the future for the Sox and all succesful teams will be how the young players contribute, and free agency cant save a teams a$$ anymore. Even guys like Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia have been rumored to get 6-7 mill, which is rediculous, so teams who draft well and develop well will rule the league, aka Arizona, COlorado (already showing the shift with those two), Milwaukee, etc.

Anywho, I dont think the Sox can even afford the pieces it would take to acquire a young good shortstop, so they will be forced to take on a bad contract like Furcals, or sign a terrible shortstop in Eckstein.

That would have been a coup. It's a shame Wade didn't bite.

What is so great about Qualls? He is horrible under pressure (which is evident by his 6 SV's in 19 career opportunities). He is a decent-good pitcher and all, but with the Sox in the AL Qualls probably puts up a 4+ ERA and gets b****ed at by everyone on the board because quite frankly, he isn't that great.

Sweeney isn't too great either.

No, but at least he has upside, Qualls pretty much is who he is.

Don't cite stats if you don't know how they're tabulated.

A blown hold is technically a blown save. But you don't get credit for the save unless you finish the game, allowing numbskulls to make statement like he has only 6 saves in 19 opportunities...

According to baseball-reference Qualls has entered a game in what would be considered a save (or hold) opportunity 93 times. He has blown 12 of those opportunites, which works out to an 87% save percentage.

By comparison, Bobby Jenks has a career save percentage of 88%.

I would have liked that trade a lot. It would seem like KW is going to go around and try to find another reliever then, with Sweeney as the trade chip. As I've told quite a few people on this site, the Sox are absolutely disappointed in Sweeney's development, and wants to trade him now before he has no value.

Fine, you wanna go with the low blows?

Egbert ain't anything special either.

I'd say Sweeney for Heath Bell or one of the other incredibly overrated Padres relievers is a very real possibility.

Well then he can't hold a lead late in a game. Whats the difference. The only difference is that these come in the 7th and 8th instead of the 9th.

Would you say that Bobby Jenks couldn't hold a lead late in the game?

He has essentially the same success rate at holding a lead of three or less.
