2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread

Cub fans jumping off the buildings yet?

Why would they? They'll still win the wild card, but if they lose the division, they'll get the NL East winner instead of the NL West winner in the first round, and that's a HUGE difference.

Sox have a better winning percentage than the Cubs, very nice.

Cards also finally pull one out at Shea... meanwhile northsidebaseball.com appears to be headed for a "soapdropping" meltdown.

With only 1 NLE champ, the 2 who don't win the division will win the WC, IMO.

The Fish up 5 in the 3rd @ WIRGLEY

This from ESPN's Jayson Stark

Now that Jeff Samardzija looks as if he can be to the Cubs what K-Rod was to the 2002 Angels and what Joba Chamberlain was to the Yankees last year, the Cubs are no longer shopping for arms of any kind. According to clubs that have spoken with them, the only commodity the Cubs are still asking about is left-handed-hitting center fielders. But that's a need they're more likely to fill in the offseason than in the next three days.

So in two starts (one of which was a blown save), Samardzija has already been placed with the likes of Joba and K-Rod? Hahaha wowwww....

its even funnier because, while he does have a great looking fastball, his breaking ball doesn't look anything near as good as Joba's splitter or K-Rod's slider (though it's a good pitch if he keeps it down). On top of that, Joba's fastball is way better too.

He could have a big impact for the Cubs, but I don't see him doing anything monumental. It's his first go around the league and teams don't have any idea what he offers yet.

His secondary stuff is mediocre. Check out his peripherals in the minors, how bout his K-rate compare to those two guys. Give me a break tribune company, Samadardizjai is not even K-rod lite.

Whats sad is that this is coming from a prominent senior writer at ESPN, not some local paper.

LMAO Soriano. What a f***ing clown.

What happened? I'm watching the Sox game.. I guess Cubs trying to get to CC early

Soriano looks to be on a hot streak again.

Rickie Weeks f***ing sucks at baseball.

Weeks should be benched in favor of Durham for the rest of the season. The Brewers are a flat out AWFUL defensive team. Their baseball I.Q. is lower than that of the Rockford Peaches from "A League of Their Own."

Luckily for the Brewers Bob Howry is as bad at baseball as Weeks is.

Rickie Weeks gets booed after striking out against Howry. Why the hell haven't the Brewers made Durham their everyday 2b yet?

Gagne in to face the Cubs?

Like Dr. Sam Beckett coined, "Oh boy!"

The Brewers should really look into getting a RP for the stretch run. Or they can pray that Gallardo gets healthy and use him as a RP for the remainder of the season.

Gagne here is a terrible idea.

Shouse should be facing Ward.

What in the world is Yost thinking leaving Gagne in here? Sometimes I forget how much I hated that tool last season.

Yost lucked out right there. 2 lefties in a row and left Gagne in.

Yikes. TB, Boston, and NY all lost.
