Brees being the exception that proves the rule.

And the only reason he was available was because they had a better QB already on the roster.

I don't think I'd call him better, but I would say they had another expensive QB on the roster who's abilities they believed to be very close to or in excess of Brees's. And Brees was hurt. Which, as I said, is the exception that proves the rule, because look how many things had to come together for Brees to actually hit the FA market. Injury, couple of drafts, franchise tag but no trade, big step-up in performance, etc.

I take Rivers as "better" in terms of size (6'5 compared to 6'0) hes three years younger, and honestly they really isn't anything separating them in the stats except yards and that's because Brees throws the ball 600 times a year.

but yeah, the only reason he was available was because they had a QB and he was coming off of shoulder surgery.

I think the point is that you cant judge after the first year, and trading a RB like Forte shouldnt be mission impossible because of his first year numbers. Everyone thought A-Train was awesome after his first year and he has flopped hardcore

That is the point indeed. A-Train and Forte were two completely different running backs (and the guy who brought up Salaam was smart, it's sad I forgot that, and he was also different than the first two guys I just mentioned.) The one thing they have in common is they had very good rookie seasons, just like a lot of running backs do. Now, if you asked, I would say that Matt Forte will have a better NFL career than Salaam or Thomas did, but you can't just proclaim him great after the first year. In addition, if all it takes to get Jay Cutler is a dime a dozen rookie sensation running back and a 2nd or 3rd round pick, you do it and be glad the deal happened. Jay Cutler would be the best quarterback the Bears have had in over half a century.

Cowboys released Roy Williams -- too expensive?

Broncos signed Chris Simms -- rather battle Jay Cutler for playing time than Kyle Orton?

Springs to Pats

Too injured. Too horse collar-y

Williams would make sense to replace Rodney Harrison in New England possibly as that big hitting safety, whose lack of coverage skills can be hidden in that scheme.

Bears re-sign Kevin Jones --- 2 Years 3.5 million

TO to the Bills. 1 year deal.

They are making the AFC title game. ;)

Dick Jauron and Terrell Owens?

DJ's head will explode by year end.

I came here to post something about this. I can just picture TO yelling at Jauron for a good couple of minutes without Jaurons expression changing or him saying a word.

"4th and 1... JUST THROW ME THE MOTHERf***ING BALL!"

"Terrell... I understand the zest and zeal of your opinion, but a punt isn't necessarily a bad thing"

"WHAT THE f*** ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! WERE GIVING THE BALL BACK TO OTHER TEAM"

"Well Terrell we can punt the ball and get into a war of field position... and ultimately kick field goals while running off clock"

"YOU GOTS TO BE f***ING KIDDING ME"

"Terrell, I can assure you that I am not kidding you."

The frightening thing is...there's probably more to their reasoning than wins. TO is going to sell tickets in a place that is trying to fall apart economically so much that their football team winds up in L.A. Worst thing that happens is he puts paying customers in the chairs. TO keeping the franchise in Buffalo. Yowza.

Never thought t.o. would a bill.. kinda... weird

If TO really is still a top 5 WR like everyone here says he is, they might.

I dont know why, from what I understand its a 1 year deal. Owens has always been good his first year on any team he has been on. This gives the Bills 2 dynamic WR's and now whoever is QB if given ample time should be able to shred defenses.

The Bills now have 2 WRs and 1 RB (who has been in trouble, no doubt) better than the Dolphins. The Bills easily have the best outside receivers in the division now, and have some weird sort of depth (amazing what happens when Josh Reed becomes your #3 receiver and Roscoe Parrish is your #4 and you can choose from Steve Johnson, James Hardy, and any minor signings and draft picks they make for the #5 receiver).

I won't argue coaching or front office personell, because I feel it's quite obvious that the Bills are in last in that regard, assuming Rex Ryan is atleast average. With as much offensive talent as they have, it's still a very realistic possibility that they could make the playoffs.

I will also call your ass out and say that you

#1 - would realize that TO would easily be the best receiver on the Dolphins

#2 - would have said that this would have been a perfect high reward signing for the Dolphins if they had signed him, because I do not recall you making a negative comment towards either a free agent signing or draft pick, give 1 or 2, ever.

Not that it applies particularily, but TO has made the playoffs - in large part because of his presence - the last two times he has made a team change. That has nothing to do with the Bills chances next year, but they jumped enormously with this signing.

once again, LOL YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

#1 - Obviously, talent wise, there is no argument to say that he wouldnt be the best WR on the Dolphins right now. Dont know what you are attempting to call out there.

#2 - I wouldn't have been for a TO signing in Miami and also it would have never mattered because Parcells would never let it happen. All he does is b**** and complain and cause problems for whatever team hes on. I wouldn't want him in Miami.

And give me a f***ing break, you are the biggest f***ing homer on this board for your team. Like when you actually tried to defend trading up to take John McCargo, stfu wite.

There is zero chance Buffalo makes the playoffs. They don't have a QB, so it really doesn't matter what WRs you have on the outside. Lee Evans production will now go down, and I give it 1/4 of the season before Owens is b****ing about Trent Edwards and how he wants the ball.

The only "plus" you got from this is that its a 1 year deal so he could try to repair his image for a better gig next year but I doubt he makes the entire year without a problem. Sorry wite, but no one is worried about a 35 year old WR who has caused a distraction on every team hes been on. Good luck with that

wow, TRU you need to relax.... I think the great majority of people differ from your opinion on the signing. Fact of the matter is, the Eagles and Cowboys both got better TO's first year there. He also was perfectly fine in the locker room his first season there as well, and the Bills were smart about it and only gave TO a 1 year deal. So unless he gets an extension mid-season, there is no reason to think that this was anything but a good signing.

Also, while still f/a needs to be signed and the draft, Id definitely give Bills better odds on making the playoffs over Miami next season.

The Eagles were a good team before Owens got there

The Cowboys were also good before Owens got there

They both made the playoffs, they both won nothing.. therefor, what exactly did TO change on these teams that were already good anyways? Nothing. All he did was create a media circus within the organization.

I find it ridiculous that ANYONE can say "it was nothing but a good signing" when this guy has been pretty much run out of every city hes played for. The fact that he had to sign with Buffalo for 6.5 million on a 1 year deal should pretty much tell you enough. No one wants to deal with this guy anymore, the only thing I will agree with is it was smart to only do a 1 year deal.

How do the Bills get better odds than Miami to make the playoffs now? Miami hasn't lost a single person of significants from their division championship team.. They resigned all their major FA's, they upgraded their FS, they upgraded their OLine and they still have 4 of the top 100 picks in the draft.

Whatever bro, im sure you thought the Jets were a lock last year as well.

Well for one, the Cowboys offense scored 100 more points than their previous season b4 TO, that seems like a pretty damn good impact in my book. Eagles offense only went up 12 points, but TO did miss a couple games that season and Mcnabb had far and away his best season ever as an NFL QB, taking a lot of pressure off of Westbrook.

I give the Bills better odds because Miami too me seemed like kinda a fluky/gimmicky team and dont think its going to work two seasons in a row. Hell you can just look, their points scored to points allowed difference is pretty minimal.... equal to that of the Bears pretty much.... they werent as good as their record was.

Rams released Pace, Holt maybe next.

Bears should be the first one calling about Pace. Don't care about his injury status.
