I don't see what Josh Fields did today that Crede cannot. I'm not trying to start a war or anything, and I like Fields at 3B now that he's healthy. Also, Quentin's swing seemed a bit long. Fields has a quicker swing it seems like. I really really like Getz as well.

800 career games played for Joe and not a single bunt hit. If third basemen are going to play Josh back like Gordon did today, it's nice to know that Josh is willing and capable of dropping down a bunt and beating it out with that good speed of his.

 

And post 2006 Crede could NEVER make the play Josh did on the throw home.

Crede doesn't make that play Fields did coming home in I believe it was the third inning? That was all athleticism right there.

 

I saw that play and I think a healthy Crede could make that play. Now if you're talking about wheelchair wonderboy that is Joe Crede, then probably not.

I was happy about the bunt. I'll agree with you there. I don't think Crede would have attempted that.

Defensively, I disagree. I could see old Crede making that throw. Offensively, you are correct. Crede would not attempt the bunt like that.

Couldn't ask for a much more exciting way to start the year.

 

Buehrle battled. Bullpen shut them down. Chris Getz played well. Fields with some big plays defensively and offensively. And of course JIM THOME.

Great way to start the season. The offense made you want to pull your hair out until the big home run showed up, but that's just how it is. Buehrle didn't have much, but he kept us close, and the bullpen, Getz, Fields, and Thome were great today.

I was at the movies, but I saw some highlights. Thome came up huge. It was off of Farnsworthless too...lol.

DeWayne Wise needs to not be on this roster.

He plays well above his skill-set. I expect to see him put up 30+ doubles this season and 10+ homers too along with a .280ish average. He's just a smart player with a good idea of what he wants to do at the plate.

That's the most alarming thing. Stone took a shot too. 3K's and 4 total outs, did not reach base. That's unacceptable from your leadoff hitter. Even from a 9 hitter, you have to contribute something. Even make Meche waste some pitches. Even if he stood there and kept the bat on his shoulder and didn't swing the home game, he would've done us a service.
