April 12, 200917 yr QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) I really hope the culture around this team and the Metrodome changes this year. It DISGUSTS me to hear people talk about that place as if it's cursed. Or impossible to win in. I don't want to hear any quotes from anyone that resembles a defeatist attitude (ie, we'll be lucky to win one). I'll never forget how pitiful it was being around Soxtalk, and just listening to the White Sox become little girls at the discussion of the Dome late in the season. I remember a few weeks before, when we were looking ahead to that series (and realizing it'd probably mean something), Hawk was saying -- "we better have a 3+ game lead in the standings because we cant win down there." You know damn well the entire team thought this. Sure enough, we were swept. It needs to stop. It's embarrassing to listen to. Agreed. It needs to start with Ozzie though...
April 12, 200917 yr I hope I don't jinx him, but... Josh Fields has gotten on base in every game so far.
April 12, 200917 yr I am still really worried about our offense (to me, best case scenario is it's like last year in that we hit a ton of home runs and live and die by them, worst case scenario is PK, JD, and Thome show their age and our offense sucks with no leadoff hitter ever emerging). But if our pitching staff stays reasonably healthy, I honestly thing it's going to be really good, and that will keep us in games even when our offense struggles. Josh Fields had a heck of a first week, I hope it's a sign of things to come and not a flash in the pan.
April 12, 200917 yr Josh Field's doesn't have all that pretty of a swing, but if he keeps getting hits (especially clutch ones) and getting on base, I don't care what his swing looks like! Also, outside of game 1, Crede has looked pitiful. He's played poor D, and he has ZERO bat speed. Either he's not fully healed yet, OR his back is still hurting him, OR he's just plain done as a MLB Caliber player. Edited April 12, 200917 yr by BearSox
April 12, 200917 yr And from the way - way back machine (well, not so way back), our buddy AAAAAaaardddsma got the save today for the Mariners!

Sorry.

April 13, 200917 yr The pitching has just been incredible this year outside of a couple of innings. The starters have been nearly perfect. It is very encouraging for the season, and lets hope we can keep it up against a very good Detroit offense.
April 13, 200917 yr QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) I know I'm knitpicking, but his name is Fields. Therefore, it should be "Fields'". Sorry. Actually, to nitpick a little more, for proper nouns that end in "s," the correct punctuation is usually 's, as in Fields's. English being English, there are always exceptions. Oh yeah, go Sox! Example Carlos Quentin doesn't have all that pretty of a swing not Carlos Quentin's doesn't have all that pretty of a swing. So it should just be Josh Fields doesn't have all that pretty of a swing Edited April 13, 200917 yr by kev211

April 13, 200917 yr Being an English teacher, I love the turn this thread has taken. Although really one can argue that as long as meaning is conveyed, language has been accurate enough.
April 13, 200917 yr QUOTE (tommy @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) Soxtalk, where improper English goes to die! Seriesly.
