December 14, 201015 yr EDITED. Jayston Stark and Jon Heyman reporting that Lee deal is close and that he'll be leaving a lot of money on the table if he does choose Philly. Halladay Lee Hamels Oswalt is insane.
December 14, 201015 yr wow, what a tremendous rotation they'll have, arguably best of all time... the panic in NYY land must be insane.
December 14, 201015 yr Author This is incorrect. It was a fake Ken Rosenthal account identical to his verified account. No tentative agreement. Nonetheless, Lee is strongly leaning toward signing with Philly.
December 14, 201015 yr Wow. If I am the Rangers I let him go to the NL. The Phillies do not even need him.
December 14, 201015 yr Phillies would definitely have best rotation of all time. And if Lee signs w/ them, this may set up well for Texas and Yankees maybe trying to get Buehrle or Floyd from the Sox if they both need a starter desperately. Grienke might be too expensive, trade wise, for them.
December 14, 201015 yr While we like Cliff Lee leaving our League so we dont have to deal with him, if the the Yanks lose out on him they will throw $$ at relievers left on the open market. That will all but end the likelihood that the White Sox are able to sign bullpen help this off season. So which is it exactly that we want.
December 14, 201015 yr Author Joel Sherman saying the Yankees are OUT on Lee, per Lee's agent. Heyman reporting the Yankees final offer was 150 over 7 years.
December 14, 201015 yr Lee signs w/ Phillies. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/agre...-cliff-lee.html

That will all but end the likelihood that the White Sox are able to sign bullpen help this off season. So which is it exactly that we want. perhaps NYY will just get a high priced reliever (Soriano) and a good lefty...which is $$-wise probably not what we're going to be competing for. If we sign two relievers instead of acquire by trade....I'd see us ending up with a moderately priced decent righty and a shot-in-the-dark lefty. Edited December 14, 201015 yr by Princess Dye
December 14, 201015 yr Looks like this is a done deal: http://trsullivan.mlblogs.com/archives/201...o_philadel.html http://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/14544236716236800
December 14, 201015 yr Author Lee could be leaving up to $50 million on the table. Yankees offered 6 yrs, 138 million with a 7th yr option to make it $154 million.
December 14, 201015 yr The Phillies might have the two best pitchers in baseball on their staff now. It doesn't hurt that they have Roy Oswalt and Cole Hammels too. Wow

Mayhaps: Joelsherman1 Joel Sherman #Whitesox (who like #Yankees prospects) would consider moving Jackson/Floyd, #Marlins Nolasco (Girardi managed him). that is level available 13 minutes ago Edited December 14, 201015 yr by DirtySox
December 14, 201015 yr The Phillies dumping Lee a year ago doesn't look too bad right now (regardless of what you think of the talent): lose Lee for a year and get three prospects in return.
December 14, 201015 yr Watching that Phillies pitching staff vs. that Red Sox offense in the World Series should be interesting.
December 14, 201015 yr It's up on mlb.com and phillies.com. I don't like Philly's offense though. Now we know why they want a Carlos Quentin.
December 14, 201015 yr Author QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 12:10 AM) Watching that Phillies pitching staff vs. that Red Sox offense in the World Series should be interesting. I kinda thought the same thing. It's like the Miami Heat all over again.

They got 3 prospects in return, but they also gave up prospects. D'Arnould, Taylor, and Kyle Drabek (who, when combined, are much better than what they received).
December 14, 201015 yr Author QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 12:12 AM) Ok, so what will it take for the Sox to fight against the Sawks or Phils? Injuries to those teams.
December 14, 201015 yr On paper, they're clearly the best. But in reality, who knows. I remember ESPN was talking about our 2006 rotation being among the best ever, and we all know how that worked out.
December 14, 201015 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) Ok, so what will it take for the Sox to fight against the Sawks or Phils? Honestly a good bullpen. I think the Sox have the best balance of the two teams. Philly has awesome starting pitching(not just great), but their bullpen is not better than ours and neither is their offense. Boston has a great offensive team now even without Beltre. Their starting pitching is questionable as well as their bullpen. I like Lackey alot still along with Lester. Beckett is a question mark. I'm not yet sold on Clay and Dice K is Bust K to me. The Sox just need to solidify their bullpens and I think they can compete. Also, Carlos Quentin will also have to improve. From there, I think the Sox have a damn good chance.
